Everything works fine for me!
Game works perfectly fine for me. I'm surprised so many people has problems with it. I'm using Windows 7 x64, and didn't even have to run the game in compatibility mode. - Game interface is just terrible - I think it's the worst interface I ever seen in game. You need to do everything with your mouse! Interface covers 2/3 of the screen - you just see little window in top left corner with units and map. Because of that, it's a nightmare to give units orders, it's just so bad you can't imagine before you try it! + There are plenty of missions. I think there's at least 30-40 missions in this game, and game isn't too linear. You have to choose your own path to destination, which is just brilliant feature comparing to Dark Omen. But, because of terrible interface, I didn't have a will to check all possibilities. - Units fights are very random. Sometimes you attack enemy in exactly same way and win without loses, win with few loses, lose or your unit is going to panic and is destroyed instantly. Fights are very unpredictable and often frustrating. + You can replenish your troops only in bigger cities and still those reinforcements are limited, which is cool feature compared to Dark Omen. - Magic is very badly made. You don't even know the range of spells! Sometimes you hit your friendly unit when it stands too close to your casting mage. + There are plenty of units - all the time units come for few battles and then go. The path you chose affect this cycle. I just loved this, it's so interesting! - You can't change magic items on your units - whoever picked up the item, will have it till the end. + It's a prequel of Dark Omen, one of the best strategy game ever in my opinion. Checking why Dark Omen became so amazing game (devs got all the experience needed to do amazing game from SotHR) was surely great feeling and I don't regret it at all! Overall the game is worth to play, but only if you are a huge fan of Dark Omen. If you are not, then better play Dark Omen instead!

Works reasonably well
I note a lot of the prior reviews state the game isn't working for the reviewer. I decided to take the plunge and give it a go for myself and the game works reasonably well. It freezes during combat occasionally but it doesn't cause any issues, the game simply resumes a few seconds later. As for the game itself, it holds up reasonably well. It's an interesting premise and a different take on the Warhammer Fantasy world as you play the role of a mercenary commander. The game is as unforgiving as I remember and its attritional nature can see your rag tag bound ground down to too few numbers to continue if you're not careful with your usage of your troops. The battle interface is very clunky, Total War it is not. The screen does not scroll and the units don't always move how you'd like them to. Multitasking between various units and different flanks of the battlefield can be difficult but then that is the challenge. The scripting, voice acting and storyline are all solid and fit nicely within the Warhammer universe. If you enjoyed this game the first time round you'll almost certainly enjoy it again and it's worth the few euro/dollars you'll shell out on it.

Top Game, sooooo hard
Game works fine for me, win 7 64x. Sometimes it has errors and quits with a message, but after restarting things work again. Same thing goes for the installation: When my pc is running for a long time it just doesnt installs the game. After a restart it miraculously does however, The game is brutal but in a rewarding way, you check the maps closely for items just to get that little advantage in next fights, meanwhile try to keep youre guys alive, sometimes you make things perfect and after 15 minutes, one important unit looses its morale check and gets killed, brutal as hell. Graphics and controls are...old but you really get into both after some battles, the mechanic of the game is so rewarding, you ll look over the tech. Love it!

Works, but still super difficult!
Hi, purchased this in the weekend for a bit of nostalgia. It works with no issues on Windows 10. Note, first time I installed and launched it I had the error described a lot below of it freezing on the Prepare for Battle screen. However, I pressed Verify Installation on the GOG Galaxy launcher, and restarted, and have had no issues since. On to the game - those of you that played it in the 90s will no doubt remember it being difficult. That hasn't changed. Prepare yourself for replaying each mission 5+ times to complete it with the right luck and minimal casualties. That sort of thing was probably fun when you were 11, but at this stage of life is just time-consuming. The UI has not aged well at all either, but on that front I suspect you know what you're getting yourselves into. For a few dollars and a couple of evenings of nostalgia though, you can't fault this purchase!
