wow! loved it!
I picked Space Marine on sale, thinking it would let me see if I should buy Space Marine 2. This game is GREAT! I played it through and then immediately played it through again. Well worth trying

The game is average
the game is ok. However, I now know why Bricky didn't put it at the top of this list. Go for rogue trader instead

Fun time, epic, holds up despite age
Space Marine is a fun time and holds up fairly well despite the release date. It often successfully evokes the feeling of being an unstoppable and relentless avenging force against your enemies. Combat is a good mix of melee and ranged. You can pretty much focus on whichever approach you prefer, and there are frequent spots you can switch weapons if you want to try different approaches with different weapons. The game offers a variety of different opponent types as you progress through the story to keep things interesting. Story is pretty straightforward but succeeds at immersing you in the world and compelling you forward. You don't have to know the Warhammer 40k universe to appreciate the game; it actually gives you a decent intro to some main factions of the setting and it's easy to figure things out from context. Compared to playing it when it was new, I noticed some of the more cringey lines of dialogue are gone in this version which was nice. Rough spots experienced include your squad brothers getting in your way at times although to be clear it was rare, it's easy to get turned around on some of the giant maps and the objective marker doesn't always show up to direct your path for some reason, and when I approached some enemies from behind they stayed facing away from me even when I started shooting at them which seemed like an AI glitch. But all of these things were rare occurrences and felt more like rough spots then real annoyances. Starting out I wished the camera had been a little more zoomed out and that there was the option for that, but eventually I got used to it. There is also a combat roll option but no jump, although you get used to that too. It's worth a play through. There are the rough spots mentioned but it was still a satisfying enjoyable experience. For the Emperor!
