Great titles very much worth playing
I think you can ignore the talk about "How DARE GOG include this game with DRM!" except it doesn't have DRM but does require online connectivity for online multiplayer because that's how SEGA does it. It sucks but I'd rather have these games with offline installers that I can keep and install forever and have to connect to a 3rd party client for MP than to not get this game at all. The game itself is great fun where the player controls only a few squads who then have to go through a map and capture points, clear enemies, collect war gear, etc. You get to level up and gear up your squads as you go, there is destructable cover and the multiplayer is a lot of fun as well. I've probably put over 100 hours into these games, they are my favorite Warhammer 40k games, if you like tactics and the 40k aesthetic this should be a no thought purchase.

A solid game, not the same as the first
Others have already made their feelings known on the skirmish and multiplayer access matter so, putting that aside - how is it? If we're talking just the campaigns, the main game and it's DLCs are all fairly entertaining, mostly linear missions revolving around squad tactics. The base building and general unit production side of things isn't a focus so much as equipping and levelling up your heroes, who each command a squad of troops in their particular discipline. There's a ton of different items, and a decent amount of flexibility in how you can build your army to fit your style. The 40k "atmosphere" is strong and everything looks and feels pretty true to the setting. Graphically and soundwise, still holds up pretty well. Explosions go boom, textures aren't too blurry unless you get up close, and there's a satisfying number of bright lights and flying parts. The story is pretty much what you'd expect from 40k of the time, and while the characters and voice acting aren't going to win awards nor is it bad enough to make meme history with METAL BAWKSES. Overall, a solid pickup if you enjoy the campaigns. Not as memorable as Dawn of War 1, but a sight better than it's successor. Certainly worth a pickup if it's on special. If you choose not to buy it on principle because of the backend requirements for multiplayer, I got nothing to change your mind. It's this or Steam.

It’s not dawn of war 1 but
Okay let’s just come out and say it Dawn of war 2 is not anywhere near as good as the greatness that’s dark crusade and soulstorm but it’s still a good game in it’s own right and has a kickass skirmish mode and good graphics so as long as you don’t compare it to the original dawn of war games Dawn of war 2 and it’s expansions is still a good warhammer game Also this DRM free gog version runs perfectly on my windows 11 gaming laptop and is also compatible with the excellent Codex mod which adds three new factions and is great for skirmish play I highly recommend it Highly recommended

Best Warhammer experience I have had.
I have been waiting for this game to come to GOG. The approach to strategy has changed between Dawn of War I and II: in I it is managing resources and base/unit building with a small portion of unit development, in II there is no base/unit building and you focus only on developing and equipping your squad. I love the change. Graphics and audio are great and allow you to dive into the Warhammer universe. The collection is packed with Dawn of War II extensions and DLC which should provide many hours of fun. Regarding the DRM comments: you do not need GOG to play singleplayer, you can do this offline. However if you want to play multiplayer/skirmish then you need to connect via GOG.
