Discover the grim dark universes of Warhammer where there is only war. From Warhammer 40,000 to Warhammer Fantasy and more - discover it all on GOG Warhammer Franchise page.

The Definitive Edition will have a 30% Veteran’s discount for Anniversary Edition Owners on GOG.

All of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War in one definitive package. Experience this genre-defining Warhammer 40,000 classic in all its blood-soaked glory, including four complete campaigns, nine full-fledged factions, and over 200 maps – all in one game.

Upon its release in 2004, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War quickly established itself as one of the all-time great real-time strategy games and a glorious celebration of Games Workshop’s storied far future of the 41st Millennium. The Definitive Edition celebrates this seminal Warhammer 40:000 title with updates that refine the experience for modern hardware and secure the game’s legacy for years to come.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition Updates

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition delivers image-based lighting and upgraded unit textures, enhancing the overall presentation. Improved world lighting, unit reflections, more detailed shadows, surface gloss, and emissive lighting make for a superior experience, while retaining the classic Dawn of War feel.

Additionally, all units in the game have received texture upscaling of at least four times their original resolution, making for more detailed units, and a more readable experience.

Now on a 64-bit platform to support the ongoing efforts of the modding community, the Definitive Edition also includes an integrated Mod Manager and is compatible with over 20 years of lovingly crafted Community Mods.

An improved gameplay camera shows the battlefield like never before, working seamlessly on modern systems, including 4K displays. Increased draw distances make for a more cinematic experience, and the HUD and screen layout have been optimized for modern widescreen viewing.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition Content:

Nine full factions from across the galaxy, classically depicted
  • The transhuman warriors of the Space Marines bring the Emperor’s fury from orbit.
  • The savage Orks smash through all their foes with abandon.
  • The mystical Eldar strike from hiding with weapons of incomparable elegance.
  • The twisted force of Chaos marries the power of daemons and heretic Space Marines alike.
  • The mechanized Imperial Guard roll their mighty tanks across the battlefield.
  • The high-tech Tau deploy powerful mechanized battle suits and fearsome Kroot warriors.
  • The ancient Necrons rise from the sands to eliminate all life.
  • The foul Dark Eldar swoop from the skies to steal away their victims.
  • The pious Sisters of Battle purge the foes of mankind without mercy.

Four Full Campaigns
  • Command the Blood Ravens as they face the deadly fall of Tartarus in the original Dawn of War campaign.
  • Lead the Winter Assault on Lorn V, guiding either the forces of Order (Imperial Guard and Eldar) or Disorder (Orks and Chaos) in a race to recover a mighty Titan war machine.
  • Conquer the planet Kronus during the Dark Crusade, a non-linear strategic campaign playable as classic Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Eldar, Orks, Chaos, Tau, or Necrons.
  • Weather the Soulstorm in the Kaurava System, in a second non-linear campaign, this time playable as any of the nine factions.

Frantic Multiplayer
  • Play 2 to 8 player multiplayer, either in teams or in free-for-all.
  • Choose from many modes and numerous maps.

Please note: GOG Galaxy is required for multiplayer.

One autistic fanboy's list of changes-

-=The Good=- >skippable cutscenes >new, far more stable, engine >native widescreen >multiple UI customization options >bindable hotkeys with presets for gridding >visible hotkey overlay option >fixed mouse cursor for Windows 11 >new accessibility features like more colorblind friendly colors on the minimap, large mouse cursor mode, various levels of 'help' detail, ability to turn unit responses off, sticky selection, auto-attack-move, and larger numbers for your resource supplies. >Units much faster to respond to orders, especially queues >ability to turn chat off >flying units overhauled to no longer get stuck on the terrain (since they were just skimmers with a vertical offset) >Saves from previous titles are compiled and imported if they shared a user name. >Campaigns are balanced to match their relevant expansion pack >Game comes with pack-in Mod Maker and Custom Mission Designer tools not unlike WarCraft III's "WorldEdit", as well as a unit editer for easy fan rebalancing -=The Bad=- >Double the price of the originals (equal price if you're upgrading) >Game appears to run in borderless-fullscreen and lacks mouse binding, for multi-monitor users, this puts edge-scrolling out of question >Skirmish is restricted explicitly to Soulstorm v1.2 (so those wanting the classic experience must buy the originals or wait for a mod) >LAN support is still missing (removed by SEGA to 'prevent piracy') >No cutscene viewer despite cutting XP intros -=The Ugly=- >Game is 18 GB install, but has updated content for all four previous installments (clocking in at 2.6, 2.7, 4.2, and 5.4 on original release, for a 3-6 GB profile increase total depending on version) >new textures with reflection mapping, making the game look 'newer' but shinier >AI can now use unit abilities (this, theoretically, makes the game harder) >Load screen art replaced with screenshots of the new units in gameplay >Game uses a mix of assets to match what devs felt were most 'iconic',

No LAN multiplayer. No DRM free multiplayer.

The description says "DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play." That is a LIE. The original had LAN multiplayer. This one does not. It requires a GOG Galaxy account and an online connection to play multiplayer. The original did not need any of that. If you are too young to know, that means you could host a local server and play multiplayer at your home without the Internet and without any account. They removed that functionality.

Great, with major flaws

It is the good old DoW. What I like: - fixed fog problems for far camera - same Single Player playability - looks better! What I don't like: - Opening cinematic is so shaky it hurts to watch - For some reason there is no Multiplayer (I have that option greyed out) - pathfinding and unit overlapping is terrible - units can get blocked in impassable terrain. Relic should have added option to attack your own units. This was probably the 2nd worst bug (after fog rendering) in vanilla game and it's not fixed.

Sooooooo... was it worth it?

First of all, let me make it clear that I did not own this game, but instead "borrowed" offline installer from my friend to test it. Pros: - All-in-one package - 4 campaigns and nine factions for the scirmish(Finally, OG DoW and WA can be played in widescreen without additional workaround); - Few additional options for graphics and interface, including displayed hotkeys; - Corrected zoom height; - In it's core this is basically the "same great game you all heard about". Cons: - Troubles with mod support(temporarily, I hope), so no Bugfix mod 1.59 for you. Not sure if this "remaster" fixed any bugs of Soulstorm; - Skirmish played only with "Soulstorm rules". Once again, have small hope that the options to choose between OG and Dark Crusade rulesets will be implemented in the future; - Graphics has been updated - better shadows, textures, etc... BUT, as an owner of Anniversary edition, I can tell, that "in a heat of battle" you barely notice any difference; - (May be specific to my PC) Lower framerate on the same performance options comparing to AE; - (May be specific to my PC) Windowed mode has Win10 Taskbar over game screen, unable to scroll down with mouse; - Weird UI options. Here let me explain my point - you can make it wide to fit your screen or centerd, like in '3x4' monitorsbut it would be nice to have an ability to make upper UI(Resources, Objectives, Menu) wide and lower UI(Minimap, Buildings, Unit information) centerd. Still hope to see it in the future... And Main\Campaign menus are displayed only as 3x4, which is weird since even Dark Crusade had it stretched wide. - Few other bugs like disappearing shadows on some maps... not sure if it's new or inherited from OG
