Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

I have enjoyed this game for many years and regularly revisit. Would recommend to anyone who likes TBS games & the Warhammer 40K series. It's also a LOT better than the follow up game for this entry -- Warhammer 40K Chaos Gate Daemonhunters.

I'm only a few hours in but so far this is awesome. Performance wise it runs great right out of the box on a Windows 11 laptop with Intel HD graphics. I've had one crash when looting something but the game autosaves after every turn so no problem. The gameplay itself really holds up. I never played this when it was released and I didn't have very high expectations coming in. But, so far its a blast. The visuals still look great and its good fun blasting a chaos cultist into chunks with a bolter or melting a chaos marine into heretical slag with a plasma rifle. The sound design/track is great too. If you're familiar with xcom or something similar you'll be able to jump right in with little issue. I'm not sure exactly how long of legs the game has. I can see it getting repetitive rather easily. But it's more than worth the $5 or whatever its priced at.

The soundtrack is still the standard when it comes to 40K themed games, solid vocalisations and brooding gothic music. You get a demi company to play with that comes with most of the toys from 2nd edition table top. Your marines can be swapped around between Tac,Assault,Devestator and Terminator roles (once they win their crux terminatus of course). The missions are the same..exterminate the heretics but they play well. Its XCOM set in the 40K universe and its done better than 95% of the recent 40K license tie ins. It also works almost flawlessly with Win 10. The only two reasons its not a 5 star game. 1 Vehicles just don`t work anymore..you can`t move them. so they are just weapons platforms until they die. 2 No Blood Angels...if you are happy with Ultramarines then bump it upto a 4.5 review.

THIS FIXED IT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbgp5kHheu8 Seriously, bought this game 2-3 years ago, didn't work, couldn't get it to work and GOG would not give me my money back. Last night I stumbled across this video which fixed the game completely so it runs. There's also two fixes it goes through later in the video so that the game isn't as laggy and also you can mess around with the options. I'm so happy I can play this game again! Share the video, it takes about 10-15 mins to fix everything and you get your moneys worth.

I may bump this game to 5 stars. I'm really enjoying it. It took some effort on Windows 10, but thanks to a YouTube video "Chaos Gate fixes for Windows 10" I'm now playing it. Awesome sound track!
