The 40K Boomer Shooter that was promised
There isn't much to say, is a fantastic game and something you can play to have some silly fun once in a while. I don't usually talk about play time on reviews, but is longer that I expected which makes it something to play intermediate between other games, because it can become repetitive. - Captures the atmosphere of the universe - Can become repetitive and is not very hard - Remember to press "T" before combat and after combat! Recommended!

Leveldesign is boring
The game is very well made, the weapon choice is a bit odd (the plasma gun is the rocket launcher with bc it has splash damage). What's really boring is the level design which repeats itself very often and has a lot of arenas like Doom 2016.

solid
Absolutley solid game. I played on the 2nd hardest difficulty. The gunplay is what immediately stands out amongst a myriad of boomer shooters with no depth, no weight and no grit to the essential combat rythym. The starter weapon "the bolter" maintains its usefullness throughout the entire campaign. Its low tier enemy shredding capabilities and satisfying sound contribute to the winning formula that is Boltgun's combat. The overall feel, sound, and impact of the gameplay alone make this game. Every weapon is impactful and useful in specific circumstance. However, the level design itself is severly lacking. Convoluted levels, ammo and health drops sporadically dropped into copy pasted labryinths. Color Coded Key hunts and lazily designed environments that blend into a mesh of AI genereated Warhammer prompts. You will fight the same boss countless times. They didn't even bother to make something special for the final boss. The same sorcerer you have faced multiple times with 3 phases... ultimately, lazy uninspired level design and limited enemy vareity are a slap in the face to the devs that made the combat and gunpay so satisfying.

fun but overstay its welcome
combat is solid, fast paced. If you like retro shooters, you'll love this game. It does tend to overstay it welcome with far too many souless levels to grind through. It became a bit of a grind to finish the game but the final boss was a very enjoyable fight.
