Any help getting VR to work on XP?
Greetings and thank you for reading! rnmwales@telus.net I own Actua Soccer on my old UMAX (Mac clone) from 1996. It is very good. It is realistic in the sense that it gives that impression of being at an outdoor weekend match in the UK. It is graphically bright and artistic. The manager aspect is a bonus. I very much enjoy managing clubs such as Germany, Italy and Brazil. I enjoy being able to position players. Barry Davies, in like an old lady sometimes, with his complaints on the play, but he is also pretty funny. I have spent hours in the past in competitions. I have further played Actua Soccer 3 (98), even more on my XP PC, which I use as an old games machine. My UMAX version no longer runs because of defective, keyboard, mouse, and other (?); also the UMAX is now not recognizing my old Mac game pads. -It seems too difficult to find the old Mac equipment online to replace and it is also expensive when listed. I am not certain new equipment would even be a fix. -I have not been able to find a workable converter for the UMAX to USB for keyboard, as in serial port to USB. I have upgraded my XP PC to USB mouse, keyboard and gamepads for other games such as AS3 (98) and UEFA 99-00. It would make sense to have VR on that computer too... So, once again I have found a copy of VR Soccer and have placed it on my old XP (Actua Soccer 3 plays fine there). Questions: Problem 1 I cannot get the speed up (crawl) and the game is far too jerky. I am aware of the DOS speed cycles and how to speed up. There appears no way to save an increase, and an IT friend of mine had no idea if that was even possible to save the increased speed cycles. I have left it increased with the cycle screen visible and tried to play the game. No change. Is there a fix? Thanks. Problem 2 VR Soccer will let me choose a game pad, but my game pads do not appear to work. My old serial port Mac pads are still like new, but would not work. Is there a fix? Thanks. Warmest Regards Russ (rnmwales@telus.net)
