Description
Virginia is a single-player first-person thriller set in a small town with a secret. Experience a missing person investigation through the eyes of graduate FBI agent, Anne Tarver.

Together with your partner, seasoned investigator, Maria Halperin, you’ll take a trip to idyllic Burgess County and the secluded town of Kingdom, Virginia, where a young boy has vanished and nobody seems to know why.

Before long Anne will find herself negotiating competing interests, uncovering hidden agendas and testing the patience of a community unaccustomed to uninvited scrutiny. As your investigation takes a turn for the sinister, and the list of suspects grows ever larger and stranger, you will make decisions which irrevocably shape the course of Anne’s and agent Halperin’s lives.
  • Cinematic editing that immerses players in a story told in the style of film and TV
  • A dreamlike journey punctuated by intense drama and populated by a memorable cast of curious characters
  • A stirring soundtrack composed by composer Lyndon Holland and recorded live by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at the renowned Smecky Studio (Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive)
  • An original detective noir story in the tradition of Twin Peaks, Fargo and True Detective
  • A striking, painterly art style, steeped in the magic of small town America and the vibrant Virginia countryside.

terrible, nausea inducing

Was looking forward to this game but within the first 5min I had to uninstall and ask for refund. Why? because the dev decided to not allow Head Bob or Camera Shake to be toggled off, or to enable FOV adjustment. Terrible design and I cant believe someone would deliberately design it this way. They are aware of the nausea from this game from beta players and from forums, the only thing they did was allow for motion blur and fps reset. Even standing still the view weaves and bobs like the char just ran a marathon, add in movement and you are rewarded with spinning scenes with discernible lag from mouse look and movement. What I did see of the game was intriguing, Lovely artstyle (with the exception of char faces which are butt ugly) and a gorgeous fully scored music intro with orchestra. I can handle the artstyle and story, in fact I was prewarned of it by many negative reviews and still looked forward to an unique discovery, but apparently devs decided their idea of immersion outweighed a huge percentage of players comfort. screw that and them

What the hell was that?

This game totally missed me. Somehow it made me remember some twisted Lynch movie like Inland Empire meets Twin Peaks (not a big fan). Appreciete the effort but this was not my cup of tea.

Un-Recommendable Considering Ending

Simply a janky game, from the animations to the story. Emotional beats fall flat, implications for the relatively coherent part of the story are overdone due to the lack of dialogue, animations go from one key pose to another in a very artificial way. I understand this isn't trying to be a conventional game experience, but it fails at what it tries to be as well in my eyes, they could not sell the humanity of the characters without dialogue and with such abstract character models, the frequent "trippy" parts felt dull, the downtime between interactions was simply confusing, as I threw my mouse across the environment looking for an interactable or for the next section to start. The nonsensical parts of the story are unprecendented and more confusing than anything else. Abstract art can be less demanding from the creator in a variety of ways but demands excellent ideas behind it to support any impact it can make, put simply, this game combines the style of Picasso with the artistic depth of Suess. Occasionally visually appealling, but eccentric for the sake of being so.

Not even a game.

Wow. Thriller? this is not a game its a story and you basically just walk forward, enter doorsand click on items to activate more scenes. after playing this I am so very confused as to what I just watched. I can say to me it was just a jumbled mess. I love many diff types of adventure games, this is not an adventure game, an action or detective game in any sense of the word. This is false advertising. Its an interactive novel at best. I don"t get it, I don"t like it. Not for me. Every cent I spent on this game was wasted and so was the 1.5 hrs of my life that I will never get back.

Why does this exist?

It's one of those "walking simulator" type things. I've played some bad ones, I've played some good ones. This one falls squarely in the "bad" category for one sole reason: There is no reason to actually walk around and look at things, so why did the devs choose this form? At any given time, you can only do one thing. And the environments don't really have any details for you to learn anything from, so there is no reason to look at anything else than whatever object is the one you're supposed to press "action" on right now. There are no spoken words and precious little writing. In other games of this sort, you explore your surroundings and learn from environmental details. Book titles, framed pictures, documents, items on shelves, etc. Not so in this game. Everything is empty and there is always only one thing that the directors of the game want you to pay attention to. Sometimes the game even takes control directly and forces you to look at something specific. Frankly, it might as well cut the pretenses and do this all the time. In other words, it might as well be a short film. But then, of course, it would have to compete with real movies and it would fall short. I'm currently also playing What Remains of Edith Finch. That game is everything Virginia fails to be. Go play that instead.
