Story

Vestaria Saga tells the story of international conflict between a powerful empire and a small coastal kingdom. When an imperial ship is set ablaze near the port of Meleda, it sparks a cascade of events that thrusts young warrior Zadrian into a war for the future of his kingdom. On the run from a vicious imperial force and short on allies, Zade and his small band of knights must make difficult decisions to ensure that Meleda's princess, and the very future of its lineage, remain intact.

However, not everything is as it seems, and forces in the dark corners of the continent conspire. The stage is set, and the pieces have begun to move.
Gameplay
Vestaria Saga is a strategy RPG where positioning, movement, and even weaponry, are paramount to success. Move your heavily armed units around a classically styled grid-based map and engage pirates, rebels, monsters, imperial soldiers, and anyone else that stands in your way.

Good, needs Quality of Life

The game mechanics seem to be ok and functional, however, the deal breaker for me is the game has no full screen option, at 1080p its difficult to see or read the menus. I cant see the menus or characters without full screen and the game lacks any ability or options for customization or access beyond the default game options.

Good Game That Doesn't Respect Your Time

Shining Force fan here. The story is epic in scope, but somewhat hollow. Everything is black & white: the good guys are good guys, the bad guys are bad guys and somehow, teenagers are saving the day in a jrpg yet again. Its an rpg, your units are part of the story and if they die, it is permanent so you'll probably be restarting battles to your last save point whenever a unit dies. Level stats boosts are also completely random (meaning your can have almost all your stats boost if you are lucky or literally nothing if you are unlucky) so you'll probably get frustrated when you restart after someone dies and your character that previously got tons of boosts when you leveled up before the restart gets nothing when you level up to the same level after the restart (do you feel lucky punk?). You get permanent boosts consumables that you can give to any character, but given that the story somethings take characters away from you, you won't know for sure if the character you give it to will make it to the end... Weapons gets destroyed after a certain amounts of usage and what weapons are available to buy during each battle are random. This would work well in a roguelike with quick iterations. In a long drawn out rpgs with long drawn out battles, it can lead to pretty annoying backtracking (especially since who can equip what gets some getting used to). It bears mentioning that the game saves only every 5 turns so all of the above are exacerbated by that as well. Otherwise, yes, the game is tactically interesting and the varied character mechanics (especially dues to the variety of equipables and their impact) are probably an improvement over Shining Force (and the maps do seem to be more tactically involved as well, though some of the forced time gimmicks and scripted in-combat events are annoying). So, a decent game that will entertain jrpg tactical combat fans. I just wish they'd iron out some of the mechanics that make you constantly backtack to older savegames.

Nice game, retro, but quite nice.

The limited safe system, every 5 rounds, and the durability system of the weapons / items is a bit tedious, but quite likely due to balancing.

Maybe good BUT needs polish

Many polish issues need to be addressed... Biggest issue - Game Window: This game launches in a tiny window on a 1080p screen and has no option (that I can tell) to make it full screen which makes the art hard to see and play. Please update the game with a full-screen setting. Input: Pushing the escape key anywhere on the main menu just instantly closes the whole game instead of acting as a "back" key. Please fix this. Game Difficulty - Unclear options - which choice is easier? What do they mean? I didn't get past the first level but I couldn't even see what was happening due to the tiny window so I quit.
