Vampire : The Musical
Words cannot express how much I enjoyed the first Vampire : The Masquerade game. It was dark, gritty, engrossing, witty, and despite it's numerous bugs, emminently playable. Unfortunately, I found this title to be in stark contrast to the original. The pace is slow and the action awkward; always seeming as though you are at arm's length from your character even during the heat of battle. A burdensome interface and tiresome player controls don't help the cause any, but it's the characters that really dulled any last opportunity for this title to shine. Looking like they would be far more at home in a Disney movie than a dark sojurn through vampire territory, their rosy faced cheer was such that I found myself half expecting the complete game cast to break into a pre-rehearsed musical theatre production at any moment. The game's atmosphere was more like the tension of a bad slapstick joke waiting to happen than the fear of whatever evil may lie in wait for you up ahead. Although some may find this game entertaining - and more power to you if this is the case - personally, I really struggled to get much from it other than the frustration of moving my ungainly character through some overly average combat scenes and basic item gathering. Give me the original title over this one any day.
