What improvements we made to this game:
Update (20 March 2025)
Applied GOG DirectX wrapper to fix issues with lighting and the brightness slider.
Added a Graphics Configurator for enhanced display settings customization.
I stopped playing bloodlines because of the bugs. I decided to buy this one as well because I like the lore and I thought that maybe I'll be lucky this time. But nope... The third mission bugged. Sorry but I can't waste time going through another buggy game in the same series so I'll stop this early. Also the controls are quite annoying and the pace of the game could be a bit faster.
Wow... Just, wow.
As most of us, I first played and enjoyed a masterpiece known as Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.
Having replayed it too much, I decided it was time to look for something similar.
Lo and behold, bloodlines actually has a predecessor! From the looks of the trailer, I could tell it was gonna be similar to neverwinter nights or something, which didnt bother me too much. Pen and paper has its own appeal.
After spending reasonable time playing this game, quitting it and giving it second chances, all I can say is this:
*This game is complete garbage*
And that is a shame, since the premise, the story and the voice acting had such promise.
The real issue this game has is the gameplay. My god the gameplay...
As with most pen-and-paperesque games, theres gonna be autoattacking and spellcasting.
However, the UI and camera is horrendous. I mean, you put so much effort on creating a 3d game engine, custom game mechanics, a rich game world and whatnot, only to completelly destroy the endproduct with a UI which is incredibly intrusive and unhelpful, and an unwieldy camera.
But, lets say you encountered worse, and that the UI and camera arent that big a deal. You also have a manual which explains all the stuff UI doesn't. Perfect, all is well, right? Wrong!
The final nail in the coffin for me, every time I give this game a second chance, is the AI.
The AI is so crippling and undermining that it takes away every bit of fun you can have in this game.
Your companions use skills uncontrollably, spending their resources like madman,
their actions cannot be queued and their behavior is erratic.
The worst part is that they actually give you an option to limit the use of resources for the AI but guess what... These options don't work.
The conclusion of this review is the following:
Avoid this game like the plague. Nothing good can come out of it. The garbage runs deep with this one.
But nothing fucking works really well, the companions of course always do what they want, i think you cannot tell one to be defensive the other one to by aggresive, so my squishy necromancer always runs in, i would have to micro manage and pause the game constantly but that was not even supposed to be there originally how did people play this?? sometimes its super hard, sometimes you get lucky with "rolls" random actions like drawing blood not responding to you commands, i guess you always have to have high blood points, well kinda fair i guess, but its really become tedious and i think ill take a break and maybe try at some other point, not even that far in i dont know if you have to read a guide to know whats a must have or not but maybe im just to dumb for this , oh and ai always blowing blood points on the most stupid shit in dumb situation even though i deactivated it??? only happens in aggressive stance though so maybe that overrides it dunnow
