Story

The game world is a place of toil, suffering and darkness. There are no elves, dwarfs, dragons or other classical fantasy creatures. There are some light magical elements, but no overwhelmingly powerful sorcerers either.
Many centuries past, Giants roamed the world, living peacefully alongside humans until the war between the two species left the Giants extinct. Some years ago, a cabal of scientists discovered a process to extract the Life Essence of the ancient Giants from their bones.

This mystical fluid promised to cure many different diseases, mend grievous wounds, and perhaps even halt the aging process. Unfortunately, instead of improving the health of the subject, very often the serum would have the opposite effect, inflicting a mutation or lethal disease. Until the exact nature of this wondrous medicine can be determined, experiments on unwilling subjects continue.

The story begins when the main character, Urtuk, escapes from the Sanatorium, a facility where these experiments are carried out on abducted commoners. Urtuk suffered a severe mutation from his exposure to the Life Essence, and with every passing day his health worsens. Now he wanders the world in search of a cure. Unless he can find a way to counter his evolving mutation, Urtuk must eventually die.

Awesome Game

Great game that feels like Battle Brother's more forgiving, bleaker, more supernatural cousin with an extra dose of character development (in terms of character stats and special abilities). Between all the classes, all the races, the equipment, the mutations and emerging character traits, you'll have enough customization options to create your dream party of unstoppable killing machines... and this is mostly what the game is about. Don't get me wrong, there are some tactics in there (and that will make a difference in some key battles), but at the end of the day, the makeup of your party is what will make or break you. If you're into that, you'll love this game and if you aren't, go to the next one. The game is moderately forgiving in the sense that if you characters fall in battle, they'll get injured (and will require time to heal) and they'll only permanently die the next time they fall. So, you'll probably want a backup roster of characters which are still 'awesome enough' to replace your injured members while they heal. Also, that mechanic got an rpg layer to it, because if your characters get injured enough, they'll get a special trait to toughen them up. However, getting injured requires some special material to heal (that is not in unlimited supply) so you can't overdo it. Otherwise, each level consists of a grid of checkpoints, each one leading to an encounter. You'll get the best events the first time you go through the level (special characters, champions, great equipment), although you can grind and still get pretty food stuff with random spawning events afterwards (you decide when you've had enough and want to go to the next level, you can totally grind things to death and be overpowered if you want to or otherwise go to the next level early to have more of a challenge). As you can see from the screenshots, the combat for the game is serviceable: Nice, bleak-looking, stylish graphics. Running out of characters. Great game. Play it.

To the point tatical squad combat

I like this game a lot, compared to BattleBrothers, which I heartedly recomend as well, this game ia lot more packed and to the point. There's less management, fights are very fast and it is a very fast game. The theme is a little grim and gory, but other than that this game is a 9/10 for anyone who liked BattleBrothers.

This game is just amazing

This is just a great tactical RPG, but of course it is a little damp and it still needs to be polished, so to speak, but it is not for nothing that it is in development, I hope that the developers will finish the company by the release, heh

Funny Visuals, Repetitive Fights

I would really like to give this game a full 5-star review because I can sense the tremendous effort put into its graphics, animations, RPG elements, weapons, skills, and dark fantasy world. Most of it is beautifully polished. However, when it comes to the fights, which are the essence of Utruk, I can't. The fights quickly become repetitive, boring, and fail to bring anything new to enhance the game's enjoyment and replayability. You simply want to get through them to reach the final boss, defeat them, and finish the game. There is no significant fight that stands out, except for the first one where everything is new, and the last one where you have to engage your brain a bit, but otherwise, it's a straightforward march through the world map. And that's a real shame. The lack of diversity in missions is noticeable. They all follow the same pattern: go there, kill everyone, and collect items. Oh, there are a few rescue missions in the game, but you can easily skip them if you want. If only there were more varied missions and quests, something that would add depth to the simple story and enhance the adventure, this game would deserve a 5-star rating. PS: I had fun, but I'll never play it again :(

Some good ideas, but

- The game doesn't really work on MacOS despite what is written: the resolution is broken, there is a small window inside of a big black one, or the window is bigger than the monitor. - No autosave when you quite the game. This one is baffling. You can only save the game during some events, so you're not supposed to quite the game in-between. But I have other stuff to do than playing their game, I need to quit and restart where I was. - The pacing is slow. The combats are sometimes tedious, especially the last half or last third. The beginning is usually fun, where you have to strategically place your troops for maximizing damages and defense.
