Urban Chaos

Both, Urban Chaos and GTA3, have aged quite well for sandbox games. Though in Urban Chaos you play as an athletic police woman named Darci Stern. You can take multiple path ways to complete some missions and complete side quests during the mission. Collecting stat boost collectables is quite essential if you want the later missions to go by easier, the rest of the game isn't difficult but there are no checkpoints so it may help if you get some health n strength boosts. Enemies will pursue you and even parkour on buildings to kill you so becareful against the enemy AI. You can steal cars without penalty by aim your gun at a car and I think you need to press the "Fire" key in order to tell pedestrians to get out of the car. The PC version is the way to go on this game, I have owned the PS1 and DC versions way back in the past but those two versions have a very short OST and very low graphics. Highly recomend buying this for the PC.

And no level cap!!!! By the end of the run around, you're practically a super hero. Jumping from buildings, fighting the matrix like bosses, etc. Love the whole roof top aspect.

There is a lot that can be said for this game. While not technically a sandbox, it still has that feel to it. The maps are large and very open with tons of secrets to encourage exploration. It was also the very first game to feature a black woman as a protagonist so that is a footnote also worth mentioning. It has a solid story. a lot of freedom to play as you choose, deep combat system, and memorable characters. This game is a delight from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and buy this now.

Took me a whole week to finish this game back in the day (good week for gaming, bad week for homework) This was a great game; conspiracy-laden stories that start from the humble footsteps of a cop on the beat with a new criminal gang in town and ends on the rooftops of a building facing down against - actually no, I won't spoil it. From the satisfying thud of a foot or a fist connecting with some ne'er-do-well to the devastating blast of a shotgun instantly dropping an enemy the combat was fun... based entirely on reflexes rather than twitch aiming. And it was a welcome change to have a genuinely strong and capable female protagonist who sidestepped every single cliché and stereotype the industry STILL relies on whenever a character has too many X-chromasomes. I had no idea that this would become one of my favourite games when I first bought it, but now that it's on GOG, I think it's time for a long-delayed replay.
