Description
The Devil has converted a tenement building into monsters-only housing in Unholy Heights, a mashup of Tower Defense and Apartment Management Simulation. Sucker monsters into moving into your building, charge them rent and keep them happy by buying them furniture.

Unfortunately, heroes have caught wind of the Devil's plan, and will stop at nothing to wipe him out. Knock on residents' doors to call them to battle, trap heroes in devious pincer formations, and command your troops to victory. Monsters get jobs, fall in love, have children, and even skip out on their rent. Keep them happy or you might not have anyone to fight for you when heroes come knocking.
  • Each of the 20 monsters species is different. Some are lazy. Some are strong. Some are perverts.
  • Build a reputation with different monster families based on your performance and play style.
  • Build a stronger army as residents have children far stronger than themselves.
  • Get monsters in the mood for love with inappropriately shaped erotic cakes.
  • Look on in horror as lovingly hand-drawn monsters and humans horribly slaughter each other over money.
  • Monster occupations, hobbies and desires are all procedurally generated to keep you on your toes.

Different Type of Tower Defense

Unholy Heights is a game where you rent out apartments to strange and evil monsters. This warrants the attention of various good-natured people who come to destroy your building and all the unholiness that resides in it. When that happens you have to decide who comes out first to defend. The battles are all done in single file line; so you want to have a melee first, then a ranged, and perhaps a caster bringing up the rear. There are also quests that you can do for more gold that you use to improve or expand your apartments with. Gameplay: The game is very basic. There is very little visual representation of the hard earned money you spend on your apartments. I was expecting more depth to in the management side, but there is only the bare basics. The battles themselves are slow. Once you've brought our your denizens you basically just watch to see if they survive. Graphics - Indy to the core. Nothing here will wow you. The style is semi-cutesy. Overall - Overall this isn't a bad game. I didn't run into any bugs and everything feels fairly balanced. None of the mechanics were broken or overpowered. However, I just kept getting bored while playing. There's just not nearly enough depth here to keep you for more than an hour and that's stretching it. If you want a single file monster filled tower defense game then this is the only one I know of. If you're thinking like I was and this game was a lighthearted management sim with some combat included, then look elsewhere.

Charming Tower Defense from Japan.

I've been completely charmed by the art direction of this indie Japanese game. If you're looking for a simple Tower Defense game with a very good soundtrack, good sense of humor and intuitive gameplay then look no further. The music reminds me of Animal Crossing and it fits the mood perfectly. This is the kind of little simplistic game that succeed into adding freshness as you progress to keep you playing it and at this price, you can't go wrong. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

A nice and cute casual game.

Yes, I got it out of the way in the title already: This game is a casual game. It's not gonna be a game with deep mechanics, it's content is not extraordinary, etc etc, more or less the usual things in a casual game. But it is quite original. Its apartment management/simulation side is way deeper than what I thought when I looked at the game presentation. Monsters have categories and kinds with different specificities, they have jobs which impact when they'll be here or not, and how much rent they can pay, hobbies (that are there just to see what they're doing and doesn't really matter unless they go play outside), and they can have relationships then mate and have babies. You also need to buy them some stuff they want (or sometimes need) so you can get more rent. Then you add the tower defense-like gameplay over that. Each type of monster has different types of attacks, different stats (you can see them in the bestiary, each stat has a little from E to S next to it), and some combat affinities. And now the combination of the two. Waves of enemies will attack your building, and your monsters will defend when you ask them to do so by knocking at their door. You can also click on them to make them flee back to their apartment. And that's the only direct control you have over them. So the placement of your monsters is very important, and you need to really think about where everyone is gonna be, and in which order you'll call your monsters for help during a fight. Also, a hint of randomness: your monsters might be away for work, or to play outside. And now, you remember about the stuff you gave to your monsters? It's important for combat too: The happier they are, the more effective they are in battle. Some stuff also specifically gives bonuses to certain stats. Add on that the cute designs of the characters and the world, and the silly humor that personally didn't fail to make me smile, and you have a very solid game when you want to take it easy.

Cute, solid concept, just not well made.

Cute flash game but has very shallow game mechanics and little replay value. Monsters are cute and presentation is acceptably straightforward. The strategy system is very arbitrary and cumbersome. Controlling your monsters in battle can be frustratingly tough because of the lack of any overlap, identical health bars for friendly and enemy, lack of hotkeys/hotgroups, stupid/unpredictable AI behavior, and no strategy interface to coordinate your forces or do anything complex. Upgrading apartments manually takes forever and often is counterintuitive because monsters will demand things they don't actually want or need and frequently when you satisfy requirements and make a really nice apartment the monster you just spent a lot of money pleasing will stop paying rent because now he can't afford it. These kinds of unnatural hurdles are everywhere in this game. Unique nouns in the game generally reference internet games and meme culture, as seems to be the popular tactic of late for flash games where the author doesn't want to do any creative work. Overall Unholy Heights is not really worth spending money on unless it is VERY cheap and you've got nothing better to do than explore simple flash games. This one is charming at times, with an interesting premise, it just isn't very good.

Surprising Good For An Indie That...

Looks like a Flash game. Cute, decent depth in gameplay, a hybrid of 2D Tower Defence and Hotel Sim of sorts. I hope the devs makes more games... That aren't visual novels. English translation could use some work.
