Description
Explore the Wastelands, a land of sand and decay populated by nomadic tribes and savage beasts. Fight, negotiate, trade and explore to awaken your fellow herald Marduk.

Undungeon is an action role-playing experience that brings back the spirit of old school action/RPGs wrapped in modern design. Restore the order in the Multiverse, influencing not only the events of the present, but the future and the past as well.

FEATURES:

  • Heated real-time battles: combine melee and ranged attacks to vanquish your foes, heal carefully so that enemy doesn’t steal your remedy, use various buffs and debuffs to have the advantage in combat. Implant organs into your body: it will allow you to obtain different abilities;

  • Colorful pixel art aesthetics: each tree or rock is hand-drawn, each enemy has dozens of carefully crafted animation frames to create a one-of-a-kind visual experience;

  • Several customizable heroes: implant organs into the body of the herald of your choosing to enhance them. Equip different skill runes that substantially alter the gameplay;

  • Vast open world: explore distant lands beyond belief and meet their exotic inhabitants. Between missions, recover, gear up and rest in Herald's Undercover Bay. H.U.B. is located in a neutral expanse between dimensions;

  • Advanced NPC interaction system: you can trade with Arhaban locals or recruit them to join your crew in the H.U.B. Need some crucial information from some stubborn nomad who refuses to cooperate? Interrupt a dialog to torture them right in the middle of a conversation!

  • Mind-bending sci-fi story: several worlds had been suddenly merged together, shattering one another to pieces in a cataclysm known as the Great Shift. The very fabric of time and space was damaged, seemingly beyond reconstruction. As a member of a secret interdimensional organization—Herald's Undercover Bay—you, a Herald, are sent to the ancient city of Arhaban to remedy the aftermath of the catastrophe;

  • Travels between timelines and dimensions: changes you make in one timeline will apply to all other timelines, altering environments, NPCs, and enemies. Destroyed a forest? A lifeless desert will greet you when you visit this location in the future. Switch between heralds to be able to complete different kinds of objectives in different dimensions.

It's fun and good but... the Kickstarter

This game has three very good things going for it. 1, Combat - it's fun and intense with a good amount of choices for how you wanna murder stuff, be it with claws, gauntlets, throwing weapons, bombs and various item abilities. I'm not so sure yet about enemy variety. But the game lets you play in different ways and that's good. 2, Story - it's a bit confusing, in all honesty, but it's obvious that they put a lot of effort into this. I don't want to spoil anything here but it's pretty interesting and weird. The game world itself is the same, and it keeps you wanting to explore more! 3, Character building/customization - this kind of ties into combat but it deserves a mention too. Your character has various body parts to integrate into yourself as well as runes and nodes that go into your core. These change your stats in various ways, adding another layer of fun, depth and customization. But the title, I mentioned something about the kickstarter? I was not a backer. I did, however, learn about the very ambitious goals the developers had that were never realized. There were supposed to be 7 characters to play, there are only 2. There were supposed to be many different worlds (7?), there are only 2. The game was even slated to release in 2018. Essentially, the game contains only a fraction of what it was supposed to have. I can see why backers are disappointed. But I still enjoyed the game while I didn't know about all that. Now that I do know, I'm a little bummed out though the game is still fun to play, which is pretty impressive. All I can hope for is that they stick with it, and maybe try to add some more content down the line.

Great gem I didnt even know was coming

I was just randomly look and watched the intro to this, and thought it had a very very interesting story. It def has a great story so far. The combat is very fun, and it has a very well thought out upgrade system. I really love the characters so far also. It is 1000 percent worth the money.

Overly ambitious but fun [3.5]

Video review: https://youtu.be/PjdJHXimcw4 -------------------- * Deep and interesting sci-fi story * Beautiful pixel art and great character design * Fun combat with innovative mechanics (organ transplantation, possibility to steal healing items, enemy damage multiplies on successful hits) * Plenty of customization * Great soundtrack * Overpowered equipment * Repetitive enemies and locations * Jerky character animation * 2 characters & biomes instead of 7 that were pitched on Kickstarter

Not fluid and uselessly hoarding

I backed the game on Kickstarter hoping for a fluid, intense roguelike with multiple characters. I really liked the art, the theme and the music. While the art, theme and music stayed, everything else went awry. Ended up with a hoarder game with only one character and fake complexity through a lot of small customization. The combat feels weightless. The animation sprite are limited resulting in a stocky movement. Not recommended.

Mostly frustrating

The first thing that I noticed was the Disco Elysium scrolling text. The second thing was all of the exposition that was always on screen. The third thing was the lack of any meaningful things to say and your just born character having three-word snarky remarks or opinions about this new world that I was supposed to be exited for. Yet my character seemed completely unfazed like a teenager trying to tell everyone that nothing surprised it. So, the story was trying to destroy itself before I had even gotten a grasp of the terrible save system in this game. Simply put, on the world map you move like this were Fallout, with random encounters to avoid and settlements to visit, but you can only save the game at certain spots on the map called Mirrors, which are like towns on the map that you need to load in and move to and load out of and then your save is anchored there. Or you autosave when a mission ends. If this were the save system in Fallout, you would hate that game too. So how much do you die in this game. Well it depends. The first shield that you get to buy is seemingly the most useful one. It can null out 3 attacks before you need to create a shield wall again. Why is this the best shield? Because the combat is objectively against you. The more time in an encounter is more time for your enemies to heal and they never debuff. How do they gain a buff? Every time an enemy hits you, they get a star over their head. One star gives them a 100 percent damage boost, up to 5 stars. So this is a world where a shotgun is the strongest weapon and are dodging with a stamina bar. A quick example of how broken this system is. One shotgun bullet does 50 damage but each bullet gives the next bullet in the spread double the damage as it is flying towards you. Strangely this reminds me of KCD, where if you get hit once, then you might as well run and hide and try again later. Only in Undungeon the encounters happen in rooms, and these are locked until you kill every enemy there.
