Description
In UNDERTALE you play as a human child who falls underground into the world of monsters. Now you must find your way out... or stay trapped forever.

Welcome to UNDERTALE, an RPG game where you don't have to kill anyone. Each enemy can be "defeated" nonviolently. Dance with a slime. Pet a dog. Whisper your favorite secret to a knight.
Or, ignore this choice and rain destruction upon your foes.
But your journey will take determination. Each adversary has unique bullet patterns that you must dodge as well (don't worry, it's not that hard).
  • Killing is unnecessary: negotiate out of danger using the unique battle system.
  • Time your attacks for extra damage, then dodge enemy attacks in a style reminiscent of top-down shooters.
  • Soulful, character-rich story with an emphasis on humor.
  • Created mostly by one person.
  • Become friends with all of the bosses!
  • At least 5 dogs.

don't let the hype bother you!

first of all, shame on you people who are giving this game a negative score just because the fandom's crap and/or it's "cool" to hate popular things on principle. i think the fandom's cancer too, but i'm gonna judge this game on my own merit and not based on what i've seen of the fandom. while it's not Game of All Time for me, Undertale is definitely one of the most memorable experiences i've ever had out of a game. granted, the battle system (while unique) can be a bit confusing to settle into if you're not used to shmups and MegaTen-style negociation. while solid in that field otherwise, the real soul of Undertale is its writing and cast. the pacing is well done, there's personality down to even the random encounters, and there's a good deal of moments both genuinely heartwarming and genuinely funny and tearjerking throughout. a baller soundtrack helps with that, too. of course, it's hard to really gather all that from just fanart and screenshots. whatever your opinion on the hype Undertale has garnered, you should at least play through it at least once. or twice, maybe. i wouldn't really worry about going "pure pacifist" the first time around; play it how you will the first run, and then strive to "SPARE" everyone on the next run. and maybe kill everyone after. your call. i ain't gonna judge. if you hate Undertale, you probably haven't played it yet, and i suggest you do: the best way to hate something is to become fully familiar with it. who knows? you might even end up liking it in some aspect or another. i dunno. i can't tell what people like and don't like in things. but really though, just stay away from the fandom. or any thing's fandom, honestly. An overhyped game

An overhyped and boring game with a stupid story on a kindergarden level. Do not listen to the positive reviews, there is nothing special about the game. Everything here is rather bad: graphics (unless you are a fun of a full 8-bit pixel retro without a purpose), music, gameplay, plot... Do not buy it, there are dozens of good games out there. With a better pixel art or retro graphics.

Avoid the Pitfall

"Name the fallen human." I don't want it to be you. I wish I hadn't. In gaming since 1990, I now believe this is the worst evil I have ever let into my life. It may be too late to turn away the first wave of players, but for anyone else who's been through this, you're not alone. This program created persistent fear and shame which have been difficult to overcome. Probably some players are more sensitive than others. "I'll be keeping a close eye on you, my little monarch." After the first playthrough, for awhile I called this my favorite game of all time. I thought it was cleverly designed when it pulled impossible surprises and toyed with my emotions, because unlike other games, I felt something real. The plot was well-woven with twists that fit, and the music itself was wonderful and seemed actually tied into the story. "This is all just a bad dream..." I played enough to run through the pacifist ending three times in total. Once I finished and sent copies to friends, intense depression hit me the same day for seemingly no reason. I couldn't get up off the floor for hours. (Incidentally, it got even worse soon after I finished OneShot.) " A n d y o u ' r e n e v e r w a k i n g u p ! " It took divine hindsight to break open the subtlety, and I may write a much deeper exposition later. Suddenly every detail of the game looked backwards, wrong. It was such a near-perfect mirror image of truth that it had the same appeal - but it was a distortion. Now all the little uncanny off-feelings I had at first shrugged off stood out stark and ugly. Human Souls are a major plot element, and they are thrown about carelessly, which is the first thing that seemed creepy. A few of the enemy encounters were revealed to be obscene metaphors. There are many moral traps designed to induce crushing guilt for defending yourself, among other things, and in that world, the idea conveyed is that those "sins" can never be washed away, no matter how many good deeds, or resets.

Trash

It is as if a game had been formed out of stupidity.
