Description
You are the Avatar, the most noble of heroes. In your day, you have beheld many wonders and proved yourself master of many dungeons. But nothing in your experience prepared you for this: the terror-filled passages of Britannia’s underworld. In this epic adventure you, the Avatar, join the leaders of Britannia in Lord British’s castle for an evening of celebration to commemorate the defeat of the Guardian’s forces a year ago. Suddenly, the Guardian strikes again, encasing the building in a gigantic blackrock gem. He offers the imprisoned heroes a simple choice: proclaim him ruler of all Britannia, or starve while his minions conquer the land. Can you free Lord British and save Britannia?

An all-time favorite

I've been playing both of these games since I was a kid. Unlike a lot of other old games, where the experience doesn't live up to the nostalgia, I still break these games out again every few years for a run through. I'm pretty sure that at this point I've played them so many times that there are no new secrets to find (and, should you play this game yourself, you'll see that finding them all is no small feat); at this point, it's just a matter of reliving a favorite gaming experience. While graphics may grow dated over the years, story and gameplay this good are timeless. So grab your sword, your bag of runes, a torch, and maybe a hunk of giant rat meat, and go explore.

OLD BUT GOLD

This game was made almost 10 years before I was born. It's so clever game in my opinion and otherwise well executed.

From the dungeon crawlers pantheon

Ultima Underworld was one of the first 3D games and the first actual 3D Dungeon Crawler. It's famous for it's immersive atmosphere and the incredibly designed Stygian Abyss. Its sequel has a less foreboding atmosphere but it's awesome nonetheless. Not much needs to be said. Should be on every RPG gamer's shelf. Keep an eye out for the oncoming "third" game (spiritual sequel), Underworld Ascendant.

Very First FPS in History

Folks, what you are looking at, while playing Ultima Underworld I, is the very first FPS in the history of computer gaming. Before Castle Wolfenstein. Before Doom. A game where you can pick stuff in the screen, then use thos to interract with your surroundings. A game where your gear will go bad from damage, where you need to lit torches to see, where you must consumes food, where every actions have a consequence - like taking that food that belongs to that friendly outcast there, who suddenly becomes angry at you. The depth of the game is truly amazing - to say the least. When you get down to it, it's hard to imagine that this game has been released in... 1992. It's in fact one of the single most important game of all gaming history. Without this game, there would have been no FPS in the first pace. And you know what? 20 years later, it's still incredibly fun.
