Haters gonna hate.
This was the first Ultima game I had fully played. Let's make that clear. I hated Ultima 8 after the beginning, but I couldn't go to the graphics of the previous Ultima games - so Ultima 9 it was. I had a blast, i loved the world, the fiction, the music, the combat, the adventuring - it was great. If it wasn't for the performance running like doo-doo at the time, I'm sure it would've done better. A lot of the reviews here give the game a bad view because they are biased from the previous Ultima's - which is understandable, but unfair for you (if you are new to the Ultima series). I highly recommend it! The graphics on this, compared to today, are horrendous - but still way better than any of the Ultimas before it.

What's a paladin?
Might be okay, if it wasn't Ultima. As an Ultima sequel? UGH.

Worth playing
When I saw how poorly this game is rated here on GOG, I felt compelled to post a review because this game is worth playing. I bought Ultima IX when it first came out, and I've since played it through multiple times. Originally it was so buggy that I couldn't play it, which was quite frustrating. Fully-patched, however, with a bug guide and frequent saves, the game is quite enjoyable. The world itself is immersive, with excellent graphics (for the time.) The characters and quests are interesting, and there is plenty of adventure and action. One of the best parts of this game is exploring every square inch of the map--finding some cool or interesting things along the way. The soundtrack is also good, and even now I occasionally find myself whistling "Rule, Britannia!" Bugs aside, I put Ultima IX up there with some of my other favorites like Dungeon Siege or Neverwinter Nights. If you are a fan of either of those games, then you should definitely check out this one.
