Description
For the first time in the video game history, climb aboard Grendizer the Legendary Robot and fight the forces of evil to defend our planet Earth!

Get ready to experience an unforgettable adventure with Grendizer, the famous giant robot. This action/adventure game adapted from the cult animated series will immerse you in the heart of the universe of its creator, Go Nagai, and will give you the chance to pilot the most powerful of robots and fight the forces of evil.

After Planet Fleed is destroyed by the  Empire of Vega, Prince Daisuke takes refuge on our planet. Taken in and adopted by Genzo Umon, he lives at the Shirakaba Farm. While Vega's invasion of Earth is imminent, Daisuke will defend the planet Earth with the help of Grendizer, the titanic robot hidden deep inside Genzo Umon's observatory. With the help of Koji Kabuto, the prince of Planet Fleed will constantly repel Vegans' attacks and fight his terrible robots, the Monstronefs, which were sent to destroy him.

Play as Daisuke and his colossal robot while fighting in epic battles with multiple gameplays: Piloting the Spazer (flying module where Grendizer is housed), vertical shoot-them-up in the Koji Kabuto's TFO, and 3rd person action/combat by controlling Grendizer. Use his iconic and devastating attacks to destroy the terrifying Monstronefs and save the earth.

Find yourself in Daisuke's shoes and meet many essential characters during dialog sequences in the iconic environments of the series, which was so diligently reproduced in accordance with the designs of the original series.
And finally, earn experience points while completing missions to achieve new abilities and upgrade your powers.

Broadcast in France over 40 years ago, the cult animated series Grendizer has marked several generations with its history, which is so rich in twists and turns. Several million people around the world still remember his metamorphoses and lightning fists.

For the fans

One thing in advance: if you don't know the TV show, this game might not be for you. I however grew up watching the episodes of 'Goldrake' as it was known here. The game lets you take control of the giant robot that succeeded the two Mazingas. I'd say it's not a very good game. The artists did a ok job in giving the player the feeling that he is indeed inside a giant machine, but the landscapes are way to flat to make it actually believable. Goldrake walks through trees and houses. If one foot is on top of a rock, the other one hangs in the air rather than having Goldrake standing on one foot and bending the other. The graphics are crude, even on 'high' settings detailed models are used way too late, pop up close to the player. The models could have used some more structure. The areas are an open world with side quests, lots of stuff to collect (blueprints and resources to upgrade Goldrake to improve attacks and unlock new special attacks. In addition to the 3rd person open world compat there are flight sequences with the camera behind the saucer and also top down shooter passages. If you are up against several smaller enemies, fight is about crowd control. Stun enemies while you attack the others or use a special attack to pull them with you away from the others, circle them. Bigger enemies are invulnerable until you use the right sequence of attacks to break their protection. Symbols over their head tell you what you need to do next. Targeting the right enemies can be tricky, if they stand in a group. As crude as the game is, it's a love letter to the original series. The game lets you visit iconic locations, talk to the characters when you play as Duke/Daisuke/Actarus. The remastered soundtrack is great. The main english voice actor sounds a bit bored, but the italian speakers sound exactly like back in the show, it's done very well.

Nice but...

The game for those like me who grew up with Japanese robot cartoons (jeeg, mazinger etc...) is beautiful, it takes you back to better times. Despite being very repetitive, it remains fun in its simplicity; the attacks announced are beautiful as in the cartoon. The Italian dubbing is EXCEPTIONAL, perfectly in line with that of the 80s. The only problem is that the game is very buggy, to the point that if you are unlucky enough to die (as happened to me) the extra mission will be buggy without the possibility of finishing it or starting it again. The worst thing is that the developers don't seem to care. Very very bad, also because I paid much more than I would have liked just to finance the software house that made this childhood dream possible...

Love letter to the fans, a few hiccups

If you love the show, you will like, maybe even love the game. It's short and sweet. That's a plus for me, but maybe a negative for you. The art design is flawless. It looks like they took the characters right from the cartoon, upscaled them and put them in the game. It feels like you're Grendizer, in all his over powered self. You kick ass, just like in the show. It's pretty easy, but gives you that "I'm Grendizer" power fantasy. I skipped the DLC, as I've read it's extremely short. The main game has I think 7 areas, and this is an 8th DLC area, which I read is about half as long as the regular areas. My video card is pretty good, but it dips playing this game. The game is pretty poorly optimized, but if you got a beefy PC you should be just fine, just know you won't get that flawless performance you'll be expecting. It's 100% enjoyable though, at least for me. You know yourself. Are you here because you remember watching Grendizer as a kid, and can't believe they revived the property 50 years later with a game? Then get your butt in here and kill some aliens. It's fun, it's easy, and you can beat it in a week playing an hour or so a day. If you have no idea what Grendizer is, the game might not tickle your fancy. So in closing. Perfectly executed fan service. Short. Easy. Just plain fun to stomp through.

Good open-world anime mecha action game

Despite its reptitive combat, the lack of more shoot 'em up sequences & slightly easy difficulty, UFO Robot Grendizer is a good open-world anime mecha action game that stays faithful to the original source material for the most part. Would only recommend buying during a sale or if you're a diehard Grendizer fan.

A giant dose of nostalgia

Having grown up with all the big robot/mecha TV shows in the early 80s in Italy, this took me right back to my childhood. And you can tell the developers were true fans as well. Yes, gameplay itself gets repetitive quite early on, and ranges from ridiculously easy to unfair (when fighting larger groups of robots with their individual "shields" that need to be broken in a specific way first). Some of the auto-targeting manages to be consistently wrong, which makes some challenges (the ones where you try to destroy the orbs that power one central hub) unnecessarily difficult. And yes, there's quite a few visual glitches when fighting near mountain ranges, with enemies or your own robot clipping into the landscape/under mountains...but at least you never get actually stuck. I'd have liked some sort of rewards - like an extra fight - for doing the post-ending completion destroying all the bases for good...but it's all good, and for the price, I had an absolutely nostalgia-drenched blast. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbPjl9UGMTyeRJ56E7mHwgPA7jxjqTPwc
