For the fans
One thing in advance: if you don't know the TV show, this game might not be for you. I however grew up watching the episodes of 'Goldrake' as it was known here. The game lets you take control of the giant robot that succeeded the two Mazingas. I'd say it's not a very good game. The artists did a ok job in giving the player the feeling that he is indeed inside a giant machine, but the landscapes are way to flat to make it actually believable. Goldrake walks through trees and houses. If one foot is on top of a rock, the other one hangs in the air rather than having Goldrake standing on one foot and bending the other. The graphics are crude, even on 'high' settings detailed models are used way too late, pop up close to the player. The models could have used some more structure. The areas are an open world with side quests, lots of stuff to collect (blueprints and resources to upgrade Goldrake to improve attacks and unlock new special attacks. In addition to the 3rd person open world compat there are flight sequences with the camera behind the saucer and also top down shooter passages. If you are up against several smaller enemies, fight is about crowd control. Stun enemies while you attack the others or use a special attack to pull them with you away from the others, circle them. Bigger enemies are invulnerable until you use the right sequence of attacks to break their protection. Symbols over their head tell you what you need to do next. Targeting the right enemies can be tricky, if they stand in a group. As crude as the game is, it's a love letter to the original series. The game lets you visit iconic locations, talk to the characters when you play as Duke/Daisuke/Actarus. The remastered soundtrack is great. The main english voice actor sounds a bit bored, but the italian speakers sound exactly like back in the show, it's done very well.
