Tyrian 2000

I was just waiting on hold and you know how that goes. Well I thought what game can I play while I wait. Tyrian was a game I purchased a few years back on one of those CD's that have a couple of old school games on it and I spent many hours blowing things up. Now with all the computer upgrades I haven't had it installed for a while and when I got it free as part of the GOG game package I was happy seeing yet another fun game I recognized. It has nice graphics, ok synthesized music and a nice variety of things to blow up. You get to upgrade your weapons right at the start at least in normal mode I was playing in. So I would definitely add this to my collection even if I did have to pay for it. The fact it was free is awesome.

I played this back in 1995 when it first released and I've been playing it since. I have beat it countless times and yet find myself playing it now on my PSP and my S5 whenever I need to kill a few minutes (and a thousand baddies). This game really shows what a small team with a focus on gameplay can do. It is worth noting that this is NOT the original game. That said, the changes are minor and this re-release deserves its 5 star rating. Here's to hoping it's still being played at the 30 year mark.

A solid and fun Shoot 'Em Up. It's not as good as Raptor: Call of the Shadows, but it's free and still quite good. I know I have a tendency to overlook the free games given to all GOG.com accounts, but this one turned out better than expected. I'd give it a 4.5/5 if I could.

as scrolling shooters go this may not be the best but as it's free what have you got to complain about, download it and shoot those spaceships
