Description
Tropico combines real-time strategy and simulation elements with a healthy dose of political intrigue and Caribbean flair to create a unique and critically acclaimed game experience.

Became the sole ruler of a remote banana republic. Fight against poverty, corruption and rebels, make your own people happy or enforce your rule through military strength. However, do not forget to set aside a few dollars for your own retirement on a Swiss bank account! But don't forget about natural disasters like tropical storms.

You can also become a Pirate King, and you'll have to keep both your buccaneers and prisoners under control and send your ships to prowl for treasure.
  • The pack includes Tropico, the Paradise Island add-on and Tropico 2: Pirate Cove
  • Become El Presidente of a banana republic or the King of a pirate island
  • Win the trust of your people or crush them under the yoke of oppression

Fantastic, classic strategy game

Tropico is a great game, period. Anyone who enjoys stuff like Civilization, Master of Magic, Zeus, Pharoah, etc is going to love Tropico. Even now, it holds up to the best games and is easily better than many modern strategy titles. The more recent Tropico editions are too bloated under the weight of 3d imagery and micro-management to be as enjoyable as this edition. There's plenty of game here to keep you occupied for a long time. I knocked off 1 star because the game can get repetitive if you play it enough and sometimes it's unclear (particularly for new players) to figure out how everything works together.

Tropico 1 is great, Tropico 2 crashes.

Tropico 1 is an outdated game, but you still see all the personality and ideas that would shape later games. It's still playable, if rather challenging and basic. It's always a treat to play these older games and see how the series and genre have evolved. 4/5 stars Tropico 2 doesn't work. I can start up that game and get into the menu, and then the game crashes to desktop the moment it tries to load an island. 0/5 stars.

All about the Ambiance

Tropico is a good time waster, especially if you enjoy research outside of the game itself. To truly master it you should run the numbers, benefits, etc externally from the game so you know just what you want to do when placed in a scenario. Do you need to do this? Absolutely not. But it sure does help to know down to the coin and rep point whats going to do what for you. The economic model is such that you can literally spend hours formulating what/where/how you will make money. And the paths are truly distinct. For example, depending on the size of your island it is increasingly difficult to have a heavy industrial economy and generate tourism. Overall, as someone mentioned before its just another sim builder. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Where it really shines is the theme. Its amusing to be addressed by your adoring public as the paragon of humanity. The music is great and you really get the feel of sitting on a beach earning 20%. Tropico 2 is another story. While I love the pirate theme and did have several hours of fun going through the scenarios, it gets old quickly. There is little to no challenge as the basic game mechanic (your pirate ships) allows you to generate money at will and as needed. Its certainly worth a few hours though if you enjoy the pirate theme. I would suggest that if you are looking to enhance your enjoyment, you resist the temptation to save/load when cruising with your ships. While it is annoying to lose a vessel and it can in fact cost you the game, it is the only thing that will present a challenge to even the most casual of gamers.

Tropico 2 does work on W11

Just head on to the folder, there is a "Tropico 2 Safe Mode" file that opens the game and takes you farther than the menu itself. Tropico 1 and 2 are great games!

Excellent pollitical and financial sim..

Tropico - the first one- still one of my favourite tycoon games of all times. All in this game have that amazing tropical flavour, the menus, the magnificient OST and for sure, the gameplay. Tons of hours awaiting in this game. The background of our character (El Presidente) has many effects. Alcoholic, Fascist, Ezquizofrenia, Hysteria, Women-Lover, are just few examples of how amazing we can be. This is the place to be politically wrong as we want/can. Inflate our Swiss bank account is just one of options at our disposal. Make a communist banana republic, a tourism paradise... it's all in our hands. But specially gratifiyng is smash our people with some military power and make our own dictatorship we the agreement of our army and take out just the rebels who complain about you. You should try it!! As financial and political game is just Brilliant: We have many many options to progress in the way we want. Specially chatastrofic are the hurricanes, tornados... they can make our paradise just a hell. And they hurt, a lot. I've never really played in-depht Tropico 2, probably a better game, but IMHO without the "magic" and the extremely well performed ambientation of TROPICO. As for the performance, no issues on Windows 10. Just perfect. Definitely a must have.
