Basic arcady rougelike static shooter

The pictures looked quite promising, a minimalistic action game with some roguelike elements, unfortunately the resulting game is quite boring in its current state. During the waves you have only 3 buttons to press to fire the weapon/skill of your choice (only if you actually have 3 weapons/skills equipped). Each killed enemy blob gives you a little bit of money that you can spend for some upgrades between the waves. In the beginning the weapon timers are so long that it gets quite boring waiting 5 seconds just to have another shot, while the tower itself has some kind of automatic gun that fires with a faster rate. In later stages it's hard to identify where to actually shoot your weapons because everything is moving and everything looks (almost) the same. There's a lot of stats for the players tower that can be optimized by buying upgrades (that are sometimes partial downgrades) but the amount of different stats also makes it harder to actually understand the impact of each of them.

Automatic mode is a little wonky

I played 150 games in about 40 hours (version 1.1.17) up to hostility 3 (of 0-5). Each hostility-level has about 20 waves, in which you have to defend a single tower against enemies, with the boss in the last wave. Enemies are represented as green bubbles of different sizes. Some have shape-marks. It all starts rather slow, but gets more and more hectic as you defeat wave after wave, which also last longer as you progress. Outside of fights you can set your skill/s to automatic or manual. There is trouble with some settings in automatic mode, like the shotgun-like skill firing at a supply bubble (yellow) out of range continuously instead of enemies (of which there were plenty) in range. So some skills I prefer keeping on manual. If you do that, you might want to tick the „slow down time while aiming“ box in settings. It helps a lot. Supply bubbles can give items or replenish health, if you destroy them before they reach the tower. Tower bullets can only target them, if you pick the tower, that allows it. When you survive a wave, you pick up/sell supplies (if you got any), choose stats to buff (if you leveled up) and get to the shop, where you can buy new skills, skill upgrades, a skill trait, enhancements and support units. The selection is random. You start with 3 skill slots. Certain items can reduce or increase the number, but mostly it’s 3 skills for the run. Most items have up- and downsides and you can only view your stats during the fight (press esc). Hovering over every stat shows what it’s for. There are quite a few things to consider. You can lock items you like but can’t afford or if you want to check your stats first. Some items can’t be locked, they state so. I played the last 100 games on hostility 3 and only managed to get to the boss once (and lost). But when I do make it to the boss and survive, it is very satisfying. I recommend this game, if you don’t mind the trouble with some automatic settings and defending a single tower against enemies.

Bordering on idle

The biggest part of the game is actually between the levels - buying items in the shop. During the gameplay you only aim the skills, while the tower keeps on shooting randomly. If more than one enemy gets to your tower, you start losing HP at a very fast rate - often this is unrecoverable. And you can't do much, if the cooldown on your skill still has a few seconds to go. You just watch the HP display go 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-GAME OVER! Graphics are very basic (something between Gravatar identicon and game-icons.net), and sound is nothing remarkable. The low variety of enemies is also a problem. It's just circles coming at you, so it's hard to prioritize. Every now and then there's an orange circle, so that's something to break the monotony, but it only happens once or twice per level. And coming back to the shop...many of the generated "items" feel samey. They will give you +5% to something and -2% to something else, or another combination that technically makes the numbers go up...in the most basic sense. Naming those "artifacts" is slightly insulting to game-altering effects of real roguelikes, like The Platinum Yendorian Express Card, or ring of the master cat.
