Original
The older graphics soon give way to the creativity of the designers. This game always provides unique and sometimes funny suprises the characters and weapons that come along as it progresses. A few days play and one is addicted to it.

Awesome Strategy
Others don't like it but I rank it rather high. Even in modern games it has a great sense of strategy and different play styles with each faction. It has room to improve but it is still a great game.

I played this game way back and...
It's far from "Standard" Each faction was truly unique, it had a Mer Faction, a beastial faction with lots of flying units, a Human knightly faction, and an Undead Faction, each was very different and played in very unique ways. The Campaign is also decent, and the multiplayer was great, this was also one of the first RTS games to come with a map editor and maps could be downloaded in game. Unfortunately it hasn't aged well, it's not just graphically obsolete the interface is way obsolete and the resolution was made for an age when monitors were much smaller so you can't see much. Still this was a great game I wish there were an HD Remake.

I still play it after all these years
Once you learn to master every faction, you can have a really enjoyable game. I suggest trying high energy maps like Angvir Maze. You have an option to play with Crusade balancing, which was tested by hordes of players and refined to be pretty good. To prevent tier 1 units from swarming, they made defensive structures stronger against them. I found some of the campaigns a lot of fun. Some lame ones you could just select all your units with CTRL A and then hit CTRL D to destroy them, then back at the menu had the ability to skip that mission. You could also use the cheatcode to skip the few lame ones.
