Torment: Tides of Numenera - Legacy Edition

You are born falling from orbit, a new mind in a body once occupied by the Changing God, a being who has cheated death for millennia. If you survive, your journey through the Ninth World will only get stranger… and deadlier.

With a host of strange companions – whose motives and goals may help or harm you – you must escape an ancient, unstoppable creature called the Sorrow and answer the question that defines your existence: What does one life matter?

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved role-playing games of all time. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player, isometric, narrative-driven role-playing game set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe, and brought to you by the creative team behind Planescape: Torment and the award-winning Wasteland 2.
  • A Deep, Thematically Satisfying Story. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game, both mechanically and narratively. Your words, choices, and actions are your primary weapons.
  • A World Unlike Any Other. Journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic. Powered by technology used in the award-winning Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment, the Numenera setting by Monte Cook provides endless wonders and impossibly imaginative locations for you to explore.
  • A Rich, Personal Narrative. Thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance, with nontraditional characters and companions whose motivations and desires shape their actions throughout the game.
  • Reactivity, Replayability, and the Tides. Your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. You will decide the fates of those around you, and characters will react to your decisions and reputation. The result is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game.
  • A New Take on Combat. With the Crisis system, combat is more than just bashing your enemies. Plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

Great but not Bioware in its prime Great

Like many of the other reviewers mentioned this game from the vantage of standing on the mountain of greatness that Planescape Torment is on, then yes this game does fall short. However, like other games that were spiritual successors, they should be judged on their own merits. So, I figure I will start with the review: Cons -The game is far to short, I completed the game at around 36 hours and you may think that is a decent amount of time. Well normally it would be, but this game has tons of dialogue and all that reading artificially inflates the amount of time it actually takes to play the game. This game was not billed as an indie title and certainty cost the same as a Triple A title so I was let down as far as the time element. I will say the framework is there for tons of more content and hopefully they will open this game to the modding community. -Combat is by far the worst thing about this game. Plenty of games have successfully used TB combat, but in this game it is archaic. The amount of time it takes for the characters to cycle through, the clunkiness of the interface to use quick items is terrible. I know the main point of this game isn't combat but good grief it was bad. -Character Creation- There is none and your person looks (male or female) is a disappointment Pros -Story- The story is fantastic most of the time. You can see where an editor would have been nice as some of the writers apparently wanted to show the world they can use big words that really didn't enhance the dialogue. Still, it is unique and engaging. -Environment- The setting is beautifully rendered and I loved just moving my character around and exploring all of the areas. I have always hated exploring in most games but in this game I was always excited to see the world. -Backstory- The premise of your character is something that is at least new to me and not the typical you are a hero save the world kind of thing -Sound- beautiful

worth it

While it will never meet the high lofty airs of Planescape: Torment it nonetheless is worthy to be played as a spiritual successor.

Torment - who cares about planescape.

TTON is an amazing game. Its combat system (crisis) is mediocre at best. Its animation is weird at times. The UI in the pre-alpha stages looked better than the released version. The graphic are good at most. There's almost no voice over. And almost no background music - only weird noises... So why I think TTON is amazing? Because with the exception of Planescape:Torment you won't find another game like it. Its setting, the character, the story and most of all the writing are superior. IT IS THAT GOOD! If you don't afraid of words and looking for a game that treat you as an intelligent person, who demand thinking and curiosity than this is the game for you. It's a flawed gem. But it's the rarest gem of all. A game that once you've sucked in you won't be able to let it go. Like a good movie, it will hunt your dreams and make you think about it during the time you won't be near it. The question if TTON is a true successor to Planescape:Torment is irrelevant. Planescape is an amazing game! One of the best ever created in my opinion. And TTON is the closest thing to Planescape that ever happened in the gaming industry. But, in my opinion, TTON stands on its own. He took all the things that made Planescape so unique and tried to improve the things that wasn't that great in Planescape. I think InXile made an amazing game. And according to their last update (they will add more companions, codex and content) this game going to be even better! TTON is the only game in the last few years that made my laugh out loud, made sad and made me curious within few hours into it. It's a game that plays with your imagination. and like a genius conductor - it turn your brain into a masterpiece of thoughts. 10/10.

In Morrowind was to much informations 1 dialog was takeink somtimes 10 minuts wath is good for true RPG players but for casuals godd solutions is like Torment clikng on object short note - not so boring like morrowinds (III)
