Description
Curse the quick thinking of the Arch Authority, snatching the child away before his doom was sealed. Had the lad been with the rest, surely my suffering would have ceased years ago. At last I have found him, but in a world of isolation and innocence. He has no idea of the twists and turns his life has taken thus far, nor the path I have planned for his very short future. Just let him try to discover the truth, and learn the secrets of Strata's five nested worlds. Watching his struggle will be an amusement. Facing him will be horribly wonderful.

Torin's Passage is a game for children, but like all really good games, books, and movies with similar target audience it also has that knowing wink towards older audience, and the best thing about this game is that it “winks” a lot. This is clearly one the the best adventure games from Sierra, made by a fantastic team that included talents such as Al Lowe and Michel Legrand. So if you are an adventure games fan this is a no-brainer. If not so much, then try it anyway because everyone can use a good laugh and this game is filled with hilarity.
  • Funny and fascinating story from the mind of Al Lowe (creator of Leisure Suit Larry), full of comical, twists, and surprises.
  • Challenging puzzles that will put your brain-muscle to hard work; but program on-line hints ensure no one gets "stuck."
  • Beautiful cartoony graphics and outstanding music--composed by three-time Academy Award-winning composer Michel Legrand.

Sleeper hit

Torin's Passage is an odd entry on Al Lowe's resume. Unlike his Leisure Suit Larry titles, it's a game the whole family can enjoy. There are cute character designs and childish jokes for kids, along with the more mature humor only adults can appreciate. The game's puzzles can be challenging, but never too frustrating. The only really tough parts are the sliding type puzzles that end some levels. Like King's Quest VII, the game uses the infamous "smart" context sensitive cursor and the inventory screen that allows items to be viewed in 3-D. Torin's Passage also adds a hint system which can be accessed at timed intervals. Still, the game never descends to Telltale depths of triviality. Torin's Passage has a decent story, good sense of humor and quality presentation. It's too bad it came along when the adventure game genre was starting to die out. I'm sure a lot of people got the game when it came with certain new computers, and now more gamers can have fun with it today. It's definitely worth a buy for fans of the genre and those looking for a computer game to play with their kids.

Man this is great!

I literally just finished playing this game a few hours before it was released here on GOG. I had remembered playing it many years ago and having a great time with it then, and so I decided to play it again. After doing so I can safely say it's still as fun as it was all those years ago. It's chock-full of bad punchlines (the good kind), entertaining death sequences and rather challenging puzzles at times (and funny of course). The voice acting is good and the same can be said about the story and the art style. It's not a particularly long game (6-12 hours on first playthrough) but it's most certainly an entertaining game. If you like old school adventure games, this game is a steal for just $5.99.

I am Torin, from the Lands Above...

I was pumped to find this game on here. I had played it many times as a kid, but have found very little concerning the game nowadays. Score one for GOG, I suppose. The animations are great, like something out of an old Disney film, the soundtrack is catchy, and the voice-acting is solid, if sometimes a bit over-dramatic. Like any point-and-click game, some of the puzzles seem a bit esoteric, but a comprehensive Hint system keep the game from stalling. My one complaint is that the game suffers from some pacing issues. The length of worlds and the difficulty of their puzzles vary wildly, and the entire game is rather brief. That, and it all ends rather abruptly. Not the best title in the genre, but super charming and absolutely a cut above the rest.

Thank you, GOG!

Wow, that is a real surprise. I had this one on CD when I was much younger. All those memories.. it had lots of nice humor and a very fantastic world to explore. I found some of the puzzles pretty challenging, I think - but I was a child. For quite a while I tried to remember the name of this game, but I was unable to find it - so big thanks to you, gog! Insta-buy. ;)

A fun, but average, game

Just finished playing this one. It was enjoyable, with amusingly bad characters. The bad guy is ridiculously dumb. He wants you dead but does effectively nothing to try to kill you. The jokes are funny though, the puzzles are not terribly hard (I never got stuck). No dead ends is nice, but it does remove the stress of moving forward. There is no worry about having missed something. If you do get stuck on a world, then the game lets you just skip that entire chapter of the game. The bad 90's hero is really annoying, and your animal companion moogie is more annoying than funny.
