The award-winning action RPG is back, bigger and better than ever! Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands! Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!
Multi-player – Featuring drop-in drop-out co-op play. A free matchmaking peer-to-peer service lets you make new friends and create friend lists. At any time, choose online multi-player, LAN play, or single-player. You can take your same character online/offline and across PC/Mac/Linux play.
Customizable Characters – Players will create and customize a character from one of four classes available and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic, class, and gender choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored to each player’s tastes.
Individual Loot Drops – Loot ninja’ing is a thing of the past! Every player sees their own loot drops onscreen. Loot drops are not class specific since all classes can equip all in-game items, provided the required stats are met. Items can also be traded between players.
Pets – Look for all new pets in Torchlight 2, the wolf, panther, domestic cat, hawk, chakawary, bulldog, and the papillon. Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, learn spells, carry items, and perform a variety of support services. They can also be sent back to town to sell unwanted items, and even return with potions and scrolls!
Randomized Overworld and Dungeons – Explore randomly generated dungeons within the game at any time for extra experience and rare loot. The Overworld areas of vast snowy morasses, desert wastes, and highland plains are also randomly generated. Players will encounter weather, day and night cycles, random quest givers, and random events, creating hours of non-storyline specific adventuring.
Four creator left from the Blizzard North and found the Runic games and thank God that they gave us a gem like "Torchlight". This is the second in series and unfortunately there will not be third. But this Torchlight has so much potential because of mods. I've played this game for 2 years and i still like because of the gameplay. Story is not good graphics are not so shiny but the gameplay is flawless. İf you like Diablo and cartoon graphics and action than this is your game. BUY IT!!!
Sinked countless hours into it already, and still playing. Vanilla game is just great, responsive, fluid, moddable,
and it works well on Linux. With mods it's quite possibly the best ARPG of all time.
Now waiting for TL 3 ;)
If you like to have fun, buy Torchlight II. It's great with another player along side. I got it through steam a year ago. Think Diablo with a WoW skin, only better.
There's a lot of good things to say about Torchlight II but it just didn't thrill me. I liked the cartoonish graphics, the levels are large and diverse, the fighting system is simple but well done, the inventory comfortable and the pet (which can carry stuff and sell it in town) is still a very good idea. There are lots of weapons, armors etc. to keep your interest in optimizing your gear, also the skill system is simple but effective.
I didn't care much for the story, though. More or less the typical bad demon wants to take over the world. There is no voice acting apart from some speaker in the few 2D cartoon story scenes between the acts. Quest dialogs etc. are displayed as text boxes, but there is not much talking anyway. There are also only a few quest compared to other games. There is persistence of objects inside a level, but at some point the game forgets about your last visit in a dungeon and completely resets it (which also wipes out the automap). This is very annoying when going back later to finish the hidden quest (robot/three sisters).
The fighting system is point and click which leaves the left hand for spells but also removes all tactics from fighting. Targeting enemies while running from them is tricky and since clicking left on enemies is an attack, you tend to get stuck when surrounded. This is not much of an issue at the beginning, when the game feels much too easy. In the later levels and during bossfights, this becomes a bit of PITA.
Furthermore, enemies fade in/out at the border of the screen. Faded out they are invisible and can't be attacked while they still attack. This also means they kinda pop up and attack you before you see them.
Anyway, the difficulty on normal is pretty low. I died only a few times during the ~23h I needed for all quests (including "three sisters"). I ended with hundreds of (collected) health and mana potions and an insane amount of money. Felt partly too casual and took away the suspense. So fun, but no milestone.
