Jesus Christ, the pricetag

I've got TR1-Underworld collection from a store around the time of Underworld premiere for half of this remaster The good stuff: + it exists + Antarctica is great + they've "updated" TR1 engine to the one from TR2, so the lag input is gone The bad stuff - The lighting is just plain terrible; when nearly 30 yo games have better lighting, you know you've messed up - Remember how dark TR3 on PS1 was? Now all three are even darker The ugly stuff * They brag about adding GOLDs, as if this was some sort of achievement and other collections didn't came with it * The AI-enhanced FMVs are... let's just say they could leave them be if they weren't planning to remake them from the scratch. All in all: very mixed bag Also: you need Win 10 to run 28 yo game thanks to the stellar programming using a kernel redundancy to launch the game (but not used for anything inside of it). Spaghetti-coded remaster at the pricetag of a fresh premiere. Yummy! t. TR fan since the first one came out

EULA indeed

This game indeed contains a horrible EULA as expressed by dukerax. That's not an overstatement. Luckily, you can negotiate it, before you accept it. It's stored as text in the game folder for TR1 under TEXT/. Alternatively, the existence of a save file will auto-skip it. The Game: Overall nice. As expressed by others, I agree the game has technical flaws - and sadly I am not sure it will see much of an update. The modern controls are botched and together with other technical issues should be fixed to make this a definitive version. But at least it's (mostly) good old TR. It has a bit of a high initial asking price, but I enjoy the faithful remaster.

Less Readeable Environment & Win 7 woes

PROS: * subtitles for the cut-scenes - I finally learned what the NPCs say to Lara in them. * good remastered graphics that can be turned on and off. Lara even blinks - nice. * increased draw distance in the remaster * updated moves for TR1 that allow you to turn around in mid-air as in TR2 CONS: * The water surfaces in TR1 no longer show if it's a strong current that will move you if you enter the water. Quicksands in TR3 are not animated so critical information is no longer telegraphed by the graphics! * The new lights and shadows sometimes hide sitwhces, climbable surfaces and ledges that were very visible in the original. Small grey keys are lost in the grey ground which doesn't happen in the original. Compensating with UI is not a good solution. Turning on and off remastered mode to see better is lame. DEAL BREAKER: * Doesn't run on Windows 7 (expects DX12, gives a Kernel error) despite what is claimed as Minimum System Requirements. I have to jump through hoops to run this and the whole idea of the remaster was to stop jumping through hoops just to run the original TR trilogy.

Timeless Classic

I loved the original series of Tomb Raider growing up. Didnt much care for the 3rd of the original 5 but a lot of people share my opinion so the 3rd is a bit mixed. This will keep me busy for the next couple weeks.

Very good remaster

I am a TR fan from the beginning and eagerly awaited every TR release in the 90s. Played on my Pentium MMX with a Voodoo card. Seeing the very classics remastered and mostly true to their roots is making me very happy. I don't mind that some textures may look a bit strange, neither do I care if there are tons of graphical options. The old ones neither had much options beside resolution and some Z-Buffer stuff. Tank controls play as they should, sound and atmosphere is as it should be. Remastered graphics are nice and I like them. The save bug has been fixed and I have no issues with sound whatsoever. Game runs stable, fluid animations. The frame pacing issues on the PC version mentioned at Digital Foundry are indeed here, but *for me* it's not an issue. Surely this will be fixed as well. The game just released today and the save bug has been fixed on that very same day. Thanks to the devs for remastering these games.
