Mostly Good Remasters

Generally good remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, with improved visuals and framerate, the ability to switch to the original graphics at anytime with F1, and optional modern controls. I say "mostly good" because there's still a fair amount of little nags that all add up. The biggest one being, there not being an option to disable fixed camera events (minus switch related ones showing you a door opening, etc). Something that is more necessary when using the modern controls. More often than not, a fixed camera event will get you killed when using modern controls. As for the games themselves Tomb Raider 1: The classic Tomb Raider 2: I used to think 3 was my favorite, but it might actually be 2. 2 has the right amount of uncanny valley and other weird stuff that tickles my brain just right. Tomb Raider 3: The one with the most variety. With a non-linear level order after clearing the first few levels (Hint: Do Nevada first). Sometimes the new gimmicks get in the way, and sometimes level objectives or paths are just way too obscure. But in the end, the classic TR games tend to do that sometimes. Modern TR games might have better gameplay, but the classics have better exploration, atmosphere, and soul.

Amazing work

The remaster captures to perfection the spirit and feeling of the originals. The ability to switch back and forth is so valuable. Overall, an amazing purchase for any original TR fan and new players alike

TR I - III remastered, a great remaster!

It has been really enjoyable to have the option to play TR I - III in 4K-120 fps with a Xbox controller on a large 4K-120 Hz OLED TV. It's like going back to play it on PS1 with a controller, just with upgraded graphics and 4 times the original framerate (which was only 30 fps at best). I play it on Windows 7 64-bit with an RTX 3090. Runs smooth, I see some people complain about the game controller in this game. Yes, it rough, and I can tell that the controller behavior isn't refined, or refined much from it's original. But. I don't mind it. For me, it tickles the nostalgia of exactly how it was in the 90's except for much better graphics that runs at 4 times the framerate, at 27 times more pixels of the original (640x480 vs. 3840 x 2160).

Good but there is still room for upgrade

(REVIEWED AT PATCH4) The visual ugprade is good. The new lighting is doing a great job but in some parts it makes it difficult to find some switches. Most of the new textures are good, but last levels from TR1 are damn ugly thanks to some poor art direction (there is a mod that can fix this a bit) The new control system is half-baked, it makes exploration and platforming a lot more enjoyable but combats are still bad and it can also cause problems when the camera position is scripted. When is say that combat are still bad, I mean Classic Tomb Raider combats are all about jumping around bullet sponges. It was bad game design 30 years ago and it is still. They really should add an option to halve the enemies hit points (as far as i remember, japanese version of the original game already had such nerf for enemies). Today this first pack of remastered games is enjoyable for old-timers but it still needs some little improvements to make it great for new players.
