TR1-3 are great remasters of the classics. The games are preserved exactly as they were with very well done upgraded visuals that still have the charm of the original games.
Many of the open source engine creators were involved in the creation of these games, and just like projects such as Sonic Mania, it shows when fans of the games get to create something official.
If you're a fan of these 3 games, I highly recommend buying this, and hope that remasters of 4 to 6 will come eventually!
I love the classic TR games and played them both on PS1 and PC. This remaster is easily one of the better remasters I have played in a while. After coming off the remasters Sega made for Sonic Colors and Origins, its amazing to get a remaster with a team that clearly cares. There are still a few graphical issues but they are so minor and have only happened a few times for me. Besides that its the same classic games that you know and love from the PS1 or PC.
I really wanted to like this game and it does look good but ..
As mentioned there is a bad EULA.
Opens in small window in middle of screen and if not positioned quickly only a quarter of the game is viisble and not full screen.
Game controls in all modes are terrible.
I have a Ryzen 9 7900X, nVidia 4090 with a 4K display if that makes a difference.
This is everything I could ever want out of a remaster, in a nutshell. Gorgeous modern graphics, together with classic graphics, which you can swap on the fly btw, Modern controls together with classic controls, great performance and more.
There are some criticism over censorship. It's just the back of a jacket, come on!. The modern controls are pretty useless indeed, since it doesn't let you jump back or to the sides, and running in a straight line is a bit difficult, so I don't even bother with them, but hey, is just an addition, a nice to have, you still have the classic controls available.
If not a 5 stars game, then a 4.9 stars at least. Here is my suggestion to make it perfect:
1. Add the option for each game to restart the level, and let me replay any level I've already completed, without having to rely on save states.
2. Give me some graphics options. The game looks and runs great on both my desktop and laptop, but is always better to have them, specially if you can include a 60 fps mode for the classic look.
3. Improve the look of the FMVs. I've tried some remastered cut scenes made by fans in the originals, and they look WAY BETTER.
And that's really it, sure removing the censorship would be cool in order to stay true to the original TR, but it's such a small thing I don't even care. All in all, magnificent release. Looking forward for the other games.
