I played only about 7 levels into the game and the game itself was ok, but one mechanism killed my shoulder and I had to give it up. it is this stupid mechanism where you have to keep holding the right mouse button in order to aim a weapon. In the course of a few hours this caused severe muscle pain in my right arm and I suffered from substantial pain for the next weeks, got syringes etc. I dont understand why it was not possible to automatically show the crosshair when you pull a weapon instead of forcing someone to keep the right mouse button hold down for minutes? Maybe I am more sensitive to this than others but it ruined the game for me , as well as my health for the next month. It's a pity because I would have liked to finish it, but I immediately deinstalled the game after that and wont play it ever again (maybe with joysticks).
The game itself is an ok action game with a decent story and characters. The most fun thing about the game is exploring the island. I never played the old Tomb Raider games, so I can't really make a comparison, but I heard the puzzles in the older ones were better and I did notice there weren't that many interesting puzzles in this. Overall I would still say the singpleplayer is quite decent.
However, there's a problem with this version of the game... It doesn't have multiplayer! That's right this game actually has a relatively fun multiplayer mode and it's only available in the Steam version. Although the amount of players is relatively low, even 8 years after release I was able to get into games with people and had a good time with it. Even 1v1 was quite fun, in my opinion. I can imagine it being really fun with a group of friends...
I do prefer DRM-free games, but not when they are missing big features! I can only recommend buying this one on Steam.
The original version of Tomb Raider 2013 ran on windows XP; this one does not. Why GoG goes out of its way to make so many games that worked fine on XP upon original retail release inaccessible to their consumers in the degraded version GoG creates is beyond me.
What happens when you take the most popular female character and franchise, take away absolutely everything that gave them their identity and culture and insert social politics into the game? You get this trash. They stripped Lara of having power, confidence, charisma and good looks and decided to torture her until she becomes a serial killer who runs on instinct and not intellect. That's basically the whole game. A shipwreck off the coast of Japan where Lara has to kill or be killed and don't complain that the character who popularised female protagonists is a generic, useless grey plaything with nothing useful to learn from.
As for the gameplay, it's gone full-on cinematic with puzzles being replaced with shooting guys, climbing replaced with specifically-marked areas, exploration is now corridors, no swimming, acrobatic moves, dual pistols or her backpack where she stores her loot. Jumping now has magnetised attaching to surfaces, gripping onto ledges is all automatic, tombs are now SECRETS... yes, Lara Croft the "Tomb Raider", where tombs are now OPTIONAL! But yes, they are terrible too, linear and just a couple of rooms and you'll be lucky to even get a puzzle more complex than shooting a wire or lighting a conveniently placed flammable cloth next to crates that just happen to fall EXACTLY in the spot you need to go!
This game is the result of executives doing focus testing, abandoning your audience and the corporate side of the business making all the demands.
"But the game sold good!", yes because more people play games in 2013 compared to 1996, where gaming was still being shamed upon. The fact the Core Design games sold MILLIONS back then for A SINGLE CONSOLE is mind blowing and today's equivalent would have smashed records. TR 2013 is despicable trash and one of the worst commercial video games to ever release. Buy it at a deep discount if you must but avoid like the plague otherwise.
