Description
Tomb Raider is a game that needs no introduction but if, for some reason, you are not familiar with the series, then these games are about the adventures of the beautiful, intelligent, and athletic British archaeologist Lara Croft. You might think that this job is mostly digging holes and dusting old bones. How could a game about that possibly be fun? Well, Lara Croft is anything but an ordinary archaeologist and her life is anything but boring. Lara Croft, tomb raider, occupies an interesting niche between Indiana Jones and Bayonetta: she’s a relic hunter who can kick butt and take names with the best of them.

When Lara ventures into ancient tombs in search for legendary treasures and forgotten knowledge, she must keep in mind that those responsible for safeguarding those artifacts didn’t leave them unguarded. The tombs are filled with deadly traps, bizarre monsters, and clever puzzles. Lara is not all looks, though, so she’s ready for the dangers that await. At her disposal is an arsenal of weapons from twin pistols, through all kinds of machine guns and assault rifles, all the way to grenade launchers and bazookas.

In the first game, Lara seeks a powerful artifact--the Scion--that seems to be the key to finding the mythical island of Atlantis. In the second game of the series our sexy archaeologist follows the trial of the mystical Dagger of Xian, which is a weapon used by the first Emperor of China, and it is said that by plunging the dagger into one's heart, the bearer turns into a dragon. The third part features non-linear gameplay, meaning you can choose not only the way in which you complete a level, but also your next destination in the story. Here, you fight against an evil corrupt corporation--RX Tech-- that has come into possession of a strange meteorite apparently imbued with unique properties.

Fans of action platformers, great stories, and timeless classics: good news! You don’t have to plunder any long-forgotten crypts to pick up the phenomenal Tomb Raider games: get them here on GOG.com instead.

High School Game

I played the TR 1+2+3+4+5 with one of my high school mates years ago in the PS1. I fell in love with franchise and I played all the games. I have finished these three and for sure they are ones of the best game ever made TR1 has the basics elements, the polygon environmental let Core Design to create special and specific traps that made this DOS Game be so great. Favorite part St. Francis Folly or Fighting with last boss Miss Natla. TR2 changes with new SO the colors and gives to you a better experience the story is one of the best ever made for a TR game. It is my favorite of all of the them. Favorite part Tibet. TR3 is the peak of the 1st saga. Some people say it is TR4, but the elements that created the last games were developed in this game. Favorite Part Antarctica. I hope games like these will be developed in the future (quality has been lost and everything is how big companies steal money from your pocket) Thanks!

I miss the 90's

I played this PS1 classic as a kid but never quite got around to finishing it. As I got older I played other iterations but never went back and finished what I had started all those years ago whether due to time restrictions or life getting in the way. I finally sat down and decided not to move until I finished the first one. After 25 years I finally did. About the AI: First of all let me say whoever coded the AI is a f*cking genius. The enemy actually get out of the line of fire. They dont just stand there while you shoot them and they actually wait for the advantage and can often surprise you. Sound: The soundtrack was there in bits and peices but some of the levels had this weird feneric sound to them. It really became quite jarring especially in some of the later levels. (Honestly I'd rather have just had silence) If you are thinking of buying this game buy it from GOG. It comes patched and ready to go whereas Steam does not you have to download and install the patch yourself. I am so glad I spent the time sitting down to actually finish this one.

A relic of video game control schemes

Though best remembered as being the debut of perhaps the most controversial protagonist in video gaming, it was also an early foray into 3D platforming. Unlike it's more arcade-like cousins, Tomb Raider focuses on more realistic character movement, perhaps most comparable to the early Prince of Persia. It's strange coming back to this game and forgetting, just how hard it was to actually control Lara. She can only really move fluidly forward and turning left and right, rather like a car- to make tight turns she has to be stationary, and must roll to face another direction quickly. Croft moves with a now long-abandoned character-relative model, where platformers arguably less realistic but far more maneuverable (Soul Reaver of the same period) opt for camera relative, where no such turning measures are appropriate. While some of the jumping puzzles will feel a bit clunky it's manageable: it's only when forced to battle creatures far more maneuverable than her like wolves and bears that it's clear why we've moved on. Take away this glaring flaw in the game play and the experience is polished but unexceptional, with some nice environments but the game play coming to feel a bit samey over the trilogy and combat leaving the player feeling out of control, particularly against armed opponents. But in 1996 it gave us open 3D environments, natural platforming, approachable 3rd person gunplay and a massive step for games in the journey of finding an identity.

TR1 Only ! So far!

Tomb Raider 1 ..... Their is alot of info out there about the use of dos box to run this..... and it works fine with GOG setup because it is exactly the way it was in 1995 (actually better by using 3DFX exe + 640x480 res) so.... the mod, patches, info, etc. that are out their can, add the PS1 originally exclusive music on top of the PC exclusive looping Ambient noise CDA tracks (both) and add the mini expansion TRUB (Tomb Raider Unfinished Business)(aka Gold)(free). it would seem that these are not the gold editions...... to sum it all up you are getting the (what has proven to be , time and time again, with many games) Day One Experience..... these games are 20+ years old, TRUB is 4-5 files ... GOG should at least include this in their installer. So these games should work.... but expect to do some research and work to get them running somewhat modern-ish (full content, nothing missing, gold, GOTY,etc, music, fmv, more etc.)

Problem on modern computers

Games are awesome, only negatives I would say are the camera and some shooting sections, the exploration is amazing. Story is whatever. This version, though, has a lot of glitches that can make the gameplay very frustating, like in the cutscenes, where the screen just go black and you need to ALT+TAB to make it go back to normal, or when the game just close out of nowhere. In my case, the games were, at least, playable, but, in some cases, like in some reviews here, they're not playable at all. So, maybe a patch is welcome. 3 stars because of glitches, 4 stars without them.
