Description
Tomb Raider is a game that needs no introduction but if, for some reason, you are not familiar with the series, then these games are about the adventures of the beautiful, intelligent, and athletic British archaeologist Lara Croft. You might think that this job is mostly digging holes and dusting old bones. How could a game about that possibly be fun? Well, Lara Croft is anything but an ordinary archaeologist and her life is anything but boring. Lara Croft, tomb raider, occupies an interesting niche between Indiana Jones and Bayonetta: she’s a relic hunter who can kick butt and take names with the best of them.

When Lara ventures into ancient tombs in search for legendary treasures and forgotten knowledge, she must keep in mind that those responsible for safeguarding those artifacts didn’t leave them unguarded. The tombs are filled with deadly traps, bizarre monsters, and clever puzzles. Lara is not all looks, though, so she’s ready for the dangers that await. At her disposal is an arsenal of weapons from twin pistols, through all kinds of machine guns and assault rifles, all the way to grenade launchers and bazookas.

In the first game, Lara seeks a powerful artifact--the Scion--that seems to be the key to finding the mythical island of Atlantis. In the second game of the series our sexy archaeologist follows the trial of the mystical Dagger of Xian, which is a weapon used by the first Emperor of China, and it is said that by plunging the dagger into one's heart, the bearer turns into a dragon. The third part features non-linear gameplay, meaning you can choose not only the way in which you complete a level, but also your next destination in the story. Here, you fight against an evil corrupt corporation--RX Tech-- that has come into possession of a strange meteorite apparently imbued with unique properties.

Fans of action platformers, great stories, and timeless classics: good news! You don’t have to plunder any long-forgotten crypts to pick up the phenomenal Tomb Raider games: get them here on GOG.com instead.

Poor PC ports

I loaded these up expecting to reminisce about Tomb Raider on the PSX. However, I was saddened to find the PC dosbox ports aren't that. Just wasn't the same experience

bugged audio, controls and crashes TR3

The game itself is great, I like TR, but the TR3 keeps bugging for me all the time, 1st time after pc reboot the game runs fine with sounds, once I exit the game a relaunch it the sound just wont turn on, no matter what, even after restarting GOG client. Also trying to bind controls to gamepad is PITA at least in Windows 10, not sure how other version are doing with it, I am using JoyToKey 3rd party app that lets me bind gamepad buttons to any button on k/b, but ie. ALT is ignored by TR3 for some reason, unless I attach R-Alt as well. (by default for JUMP) The game also keeps crashing on some resolutions when setting them in the game option/detail menu. Disappointed from all those issues, and we have been so eager to play this nostalgic game with my GF :(

Iconic Games half cooked...

What game and it's character is more iconic than Tomb Raider and Lara Croft? In my opinion the second Tomb Raider game is the prototype of modern 3rd person action games. So many features ahead of its time. Truly astonishing when you go back and take your time to enjoy these old gems once again, realising how much these series added to video game mechanics and culture. - 0.5 Stars for the wonky GOG Version - 0.5 Stars for the many bad gamedesign decisions in Tomb Raider 3

QUAKETALLICA

Highly Innovative then, But Aged Poorly

Graphics of the early polygonal era do not bother me at all. I love many games of the PS1 era. My name is literally from Quake. Tons of games from then hold up just as well as when they came out. Sadly, Tomb Raider, it must be acknowledged, is not among them. Are the games bad? By no means. And when they came out back in the 90s, they were the first to really capture the spirit of the Indiana Jones movies in a 3D action/adventure setting (the 2D point and click games were there for several years prior). 3D itself was fairly novel in 1996, so this was the cutting edge of technology at the time. Since it was so new, the controls hadn't really been worked out yet, and lots of games innovated. While Doom and Resident Evil's classic controls are fine to use today, if a little unorthodox, Tomb Raider's are just a painful chore. They are highly imprecise, and overly clunky with too many button combos to input that over-complicates what could be simple jumping and grabbing mechanics. Which is especially vexing when most of the game revolves around precise jumping and grabbing ledges. That the original was replaced by the superior "Anniversary" remake in 2006 is a testament that even the original developers conceded the first ones have not aged well. (Same story, way better controls, gameplay, and graphics) Are the original games unplayable? No. If you're willing to suffer through the tedious controls and ugly graphics, there are some neat puzzles and level designs that would've impressed in the 90s. It's a solid game. But why bother? There's like a million Indy-style games out there now, (e.g. Uncharted); even the TR series alone has two additional reboot trilogies which are both way better in every way. Just play those instead. There's really no reason to go back to the original Tomb Raider's unless you have a childhood nostalgia for them or are a hardcore fan of the newer ones and want to experience the origins. Even on sale at $1 it wasn't really worth it.

Milestone

Tomb Raider a so famous brand that everyone know what it is. This 1+2+3 collection is a milestone in videogames hystory. If you are not scared by an old game, you will find the best Tomba Raider games ever. Beware they are onld games: old controls, old graphic, old mechanics but awesome gameplay.
