A Work of Art

This game is a true work of art. The research conducted to construct this game was immense. If I’m not mistaken, Cameron even relied on it for some of the groundwork for the 1997 film. So many areas of the ship are reconstructed here and the detail is fantastic. What I love about this game is how eerie it is. This is achieved largely through the fantastic soundtrack and the fact that you traverse lonely corridors and dark cavities of the engine room. Some might say the underpopulation of the ship is a detractor. It’s obvious that graphics limitations might have contributed to this, but for me, it enhanced the feeling of loneliness and solitude. The plot is decent and the interaction with other characters is fun. The FMV characters are quite entertaining. I can play the card game for hours. Fencing is basic, but fun. There’s also a tense fight in the engine room. So many great memories and I’m so very pleased to see this on GOG. I can now place my well-worn double disc set into permanent storage.

Pure Nostalgia

This game is one of my earliest PC gaming memories. Despite the existence of the browser version, I always knew I would buy this the day gog added it. I honestly never expected that day to come, but I am so glad it did. The aspect of the game that holds up best is probably the atmosphere, especially the soundtrack. If you're a fan of point and click adventure games, I'm sure you will love this game, but I'd seriously recommend it to anyone based on the music and the visual representation of the ship. It's really haunting to walk around all alone knowing most everyone around you is doomed and being accompanied by music that can be downright creepy at times. The game isn't terribly long, but there are a few different endings, so it is worth replaying.

Explore the Titanic decks and survive!

I loved this game when it came out. I still love it. I'm so pleased it's available again here. It's split into two halves - part one: explore the ship to your heart's content. Meet the other passengers and really get to know the layout of the liner. Part two - the ship is sinking and you have a number of objectives to achieve within a timed environment before the ship is lost...and perhaps you are too! That's the fun part. It took me three attempts to do it all successfully. Sure the graphics are very dated now but hey...how many of your friends can boast "I was on the Titanic last night!"?

Childhood

I was 8 years old when this released, way too young to figure out how to finish this game, but I spent oodles of time exploring the ship and trying my luck with blackjack. I still remember exiting out the back of the Scotland Road hallways and being freaked out by the dark, narrow halls. I had almost forgotten about that until I saw it again, now 30 years old, and raced back up the stairs like i used to, freaked out that some ghost or something was going to appear (but never does). This game captured my imagination and helped spark my interest in gaming beyond side scrolling platformers. So happy this is released on GOG. The only reason this is a 4 star review is, for some reason, the dialogue cuts off too early when NPCs speak. They'll about get to the last word of a sentence and suddenly cut that last word off and jump into the first word of the next sentence. It's annoying, so I'll try to find a fix and if I do, I'll post it to this review.

Returned to the flock at last.

I remember checking this out from my library as a high schooler. I had played Myst previously, and was enamored by the point and click adventure. I was delightfully surprised by the recreation detail of the Titanic, and Cyberflix's tight story writing.
