Wished it was more..

As Riven is my favorite game, I generally leap headlong into any title of this nature. These days, now that Walking Simulators are all the rage, I generally find myself disappointed. Great premise at atmosphere, but the lack of any challenge makes it feel like a bit of a chore, even with it's short game time. I'll round my 3.5 up due to the fact this was made almost entirely by one guy, so hats off to ya! If you want a quick little story to pass an afternoon with, go for it! If you want a challenge that leaves you pondering and reflecting on... meh. Would love to see what this guy could do with a few employees though!

Best short game experiences of my 2024

Honestly, when I picked up the game I expected something like Firewatch, maybe something like Harspace:Shipbreaker, where we would get to do tasks while having conversations on radio with the NPC characters. A narrative driven blue collar space worker story, but it isn't like that, but regardless it was an enjoyable game. Without spoiling anything more than what is in the description it was a really good short game with a narrative that does a deep dive on big concepts that was unexpected. There have been a bunch of situations in the gameplay that never gets addressed in the narrative, but voice acting is great, and the environment has a neat retro futuristic looks, much like Alien Isolation. I wished the manually performed tasks would have had a bit more tactile minigame feel to them, like in Alien Isolation, but since those were barely in the gameplay, I guess it wasn't worth the effort to develop further for a short narrative, so in the end it makes sense, and can't fault the developer for it. If someone ever played Hardspace: Shipbreaker, or for that matter the mentioned Alien Isolation, you'll see how the story could fit easily into their backgrounds. (you'll know what I mean when you finish the game :P) In terms of enjoyable, narrative driven, short story game experiences, on the last day of 2024, this game takes the cake. Well done! (would be up for a sequel)

Short but enjoyable narrative experience

Titan Station is not exactly a horror game, it's more of a narrative thriller. There are no jump scares or monsters chasing you here. The atmosphere does a good job of conveying paranoia. The station feels grounded like a real place. I appreciate how the designer didn't try to pad the playtime with filler. The whole game can be finished in an afternoon. The one thing I didn't like were the 3-D VR sections. The controls aren't well suited to these kinds of puzzles and they just weren't very enjoyable. All in all I would recommend picking this game up on sale if you are in the mood for a bite-sized story-driven experience.

Firewatch in space

The game is obviously inspired by Firewatch. It's a nice little game with exciting story (although a bit confusing at the end). Gameplay wise it's a walking/reading sim. The station is small (not some Deadspace "space city") so the game is based on a lot of running back and forth, backtracking and interacting with computers over and over (I'm looking at you Datacenter...). There are also some easy puzzles. Voice acting is 3.6 Rtg (not good, not terrible). It's obvious the devs aren't professional voice actors. Overall it's a fine little gem, especially when on sale.

Crashy?

Could possibly just be an issue with my system, or whatever, but the game has crashed twice now. Didn't even manage to get all the Section A computers connected to the network. Doing a refund before I've played too much of this, as it's giving me bad vibes on the stability, and I couldn't even find a crash log or anything. It just sort of disappears, full CTD. Too bad, as it seems to be very entertaining.
