the dream of the red turtles

Anyone coming to this expecting a radically different experience from the base game will be sorely disappointed: asset recycling runs rampant (in two hours I encountered three new enemies: two monkeys and a floating eel; hardly the stuff of legend), the game-play is the same, and the plot is threadbare. That said, it is clear that some care was involved in the assembly. The backgrounds are very picturesque, the NPC dialogue has the familiar, sardonic humor of the original game, the voice acting is decent and little touches throughout keep things from feeling stale (a flopping beached shark here, a giant nautilus shell there; a letter from two tiger men saying they're running away from the army to join up with Siegfried and Roy). For a cash-grab, it's pretty well designed. And, yeah, there's new stuff to collect. But after three expansions' worth, I doubt anyone was running short on items... Is it worth $20 and having to complete the base game 2.5 times? Does it raise the level cap, or offer some new mechanic that's vastly different from the original? Not really. But if you've already trudged your way to Legendary and are short on things to do, this'll keep you going for a while longer. ... Oh yeah -- if you use TQ Vault, this expansion changes the item order in the database and will screw up the way your inventory is rendered (some missing icons for older items, no icons at all for stuff from this expansion). Fingers crossed EJFudd releases an update at some point.

Hopefully the last TQ expansion

Eternal embers doesn't and can't fix some of the glaring issues facing TQ after 3 expansions: - experience points have become irrelevant since you'll level up just 2 or 3 times throughout this expansion. Besides, increasing your strength from 1200 to 1215 won't make you any stronger and you have nowhere to invest those extra points in the mastery tree - the relevant skills are probably already maxed - picking up gold has likewise become irrelevant, buying weapons from merchants costs tens of millions of GP and you can effectively lose all the gold you've hauled throughout the game just to buy a couple of items - farming relics for artifacts is as painful as ever. Chances are you'll be collecting a bunch of greater/divine recipes because you need recipes from lower difficulty levels. That's a massive time waster to get. - with lowered resistances on "legendary" you'll essentially be a glass cannon. Prepare to die often. Eternal embers itself has some annoyances worth mentioning: - the areas can be massive and you'll frequently get lost as there is no clear indication where you have to go to progress. This "open world" concept gets old pretty fast - halfway through the game you'll enter Egypt again and the this part of game is just badly optimized and dull. Massive areas, endless optional dungeons and repetitive battles with same enemies over and over again. On top of it all enemies seem to drop only one specific relic - Serket's touch. You'll have no incentive to fight these enemies, but you'll have to since you'll probably be lost, desperately trying to find the next rebirth fountain It's a shame some of these issues destroy my overall impression of Eternal embers, especially because it's visually by far the prettiest of the expansions. One thing is for sure - unless developers address some of the issues above, there is no need for any extra expansions. Just start working on TQ2 instead.

PSA for missing DLC (it isn't)

I thought my DLC was missing too (on Steam). Rather, Eternal Embers is installed. It is just not available at every difficulty level. Your character must be Legendary or you must create a new Legendary character in order to play Eternal Embers. Now go and enjoy this awesome game :)

It works again! Gamepad needs some work

As someone mentioned, the game did not recognize owned DLCs after the new update, but it works well again! New areas are really beautiful! The controller suppport needs some work however, some skills have problem with targeting, for example a lot of skills will fire in the opposite direction of targeted enemy, resulting in no dmg and status effects applied to the enemy. I got killed a few times because of that. It's quite game breaking... Apart from this and a few minor bugs it's good! Thank you for reading :)

Not great

OK expansion. It's fun but too long and has design issues. Ragnarok and Atlantis were better. Some notes because the game description is misleading: - "A whole new epic quest line spanning 4 acts" is a total lie. It's 1 new act with 10 waypoints. Everything in EE is grouped as 'Act VI' or 'The East' ingame, same as all the other expansions. - You don't need to play through all 3 difficulties first. Create a new character in Legendary mode and it'll put you right in the EE starting area.
