Overall I like it

What you get in Tinytopia isn't a serious city builder but a whimsical toy, a little bit limited in its scope. I give it an extra star for the wind-up dinosaur. Pros: Levels are fun and sometimes a little challenging. - Graphics are adorable and fit very well with the toy concept. - There are humorous bits built in that will be mostly noticeable when making mistakes. +/- Being able to have buildings combine for better specs is a fun aspect (although it can start feeling like a chore when you're combining numerous housing units to meet population requirements. Cons: The economy is terribly imbalanced. Suffice it to say by placing a few buildings the player goes from running into the red financially to making thousands every cycle. - The over-powered economy made some of the levels feel more like a grind to meet certain goals. - Several of the buildings do not want to properly combine. - Sandbox map is extremely limited. There is only the one and I had the idea of using it for experimentation of combining buildings only to discover being able to access said buildings was dependent on completing a scenario. Overall I'd say play it if you enjoy fairly simple city building puzzles but in the end it left me itching to go back to a serious city builder.

Neat little puzzle/builder hybrid

Note at the core of the game, it's a puzzle game and not a builder. But it is a hybrid. It's a "direct plop placement" game (no zone and wait). You build buildings next to each other, they combine, and tier up. The game's not super deep, but it's short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome. Each stage (with a couple exceptions) can be easily done in a reasonable amount of time (a single session). This makes it a good "lunch break game". The achievements list is filled with ridiculous padding, and, at time of writing, a couple of them are bugged and do not trigger (including those on the longest, most repetitive stage of the game, Shanghai). The physics-puzzle levels stages one can get frustrating, but, except the see-saw one, aren't too bad since they have lower requirements and unlimited money. Overall, pleasant. Want a couple weeks of lunch break simple relaxation? This is a good one for it. 3.5 out of 5. If this makes you want another puzzle-citybuilder, one that is awesome, go to itch (sadly not on GOG) and check out Concrete Jungle.

Cute but boring

A cute but boring city builder. While the toy theme and whimsical music make a great first impression, the gameplay is dull, finicky and unbalanced. You place "blocks" of buildings that are supposed to combine into each other (multiple houses = a mansion, that sort of thing), but it feels wonky and unsatisfying. Selecting the "Snap To" option helps, but then you realise the entire game is just stacking stuff in service of a simple, exploitable economy. Even original SimCity is better than this!

entertaining puzzle/builder hybrid

As some others already pointed out: it is more of a puzzle game than a builder. It has elements from a builder, but they are not as prominent as the puzzle content. Gameplay: You get several tutorial levels that introduce you too the mechanics. The levels are not complicated and take between 20 minutes to 1 hour to complete. Your progress is saved if you leave a level, so you can just continue later. In the actual gameplay, you stack buildings so they fuse to the next higher tier building. In some levels this gets really repetitive and boring. Visuals: They are nice and work pretty well with a lower end gaming pc (2GB graphics, 16GB RAM, i5-8th gen) Bugs: there are some minor bugs that can be mostly solved by restarting the game - the move building option got kind of stuck and couldn't be executed, except you clicked on a building first, then on the move button, then again on the item you want to move, restart solves this issue - some fusions are a little buggy, it helps to enable/disable the grid mode, depending on the current status and move the buildings some pixels - sound effects stopped in one level, but came back after a restart

Limited entertainment

This is a pretty basic city builder. The only real trick to it is placing items in the correct place so they combine. It's easy to meet budget requirements after not long. The main issue I have is there are way too few levels and you will finish it after a day or so. Replay value is almost zero. Could only recommend it if it is on special for around $3-4.
