A great game with well crafted puzzles and crafted world locations of areas with great graphics for its time,Thank you for the updated release i can leave the windows 98 version on the shelf.
Now if GOG could release Myst Exile,Discworld Noir (GT Release),Lighthouse (Sierra release) it would add to this era's games brilliantly.
This is one of the first adventure games I have ever played in my life. I think I was about 8 when I got this. It was beautifully packaged for its time and the graphics as well as complicated puzzles stole my heart right away. I don't know how long have I been looking for this and seeing this on GOG sent chills down my spine right away. Thank you guys for making this amazing game available for me once again!
Fantastic Myst-like adventure but I always found it a little more interesting. Definitely need a pen/paper handy for all the puzzles -- you can take pictures with a camera but that's hit or miss with helpfulness. Some FMV elements - like the hilarious and campy Steven Martin-esque guy you have to save. I have been waiting literal years for this to be upgraded to newer OS.
Timelapse is yet another collection of puzzles set in a 3D environment you cannot freely traverse.
Luckily it's the most relaxing and pretty example of its genre I experienced so far. Instead of focusing on some mechanism made out of metal, most of the game seems to rely on the beauty of nature, with each area being augmented with some animals going by - a cat, some birds, etc.
It makes the world you're in feel alive, despite being incredibly quiet.
Due to the nature of the game, you seem to explore civilizations long dead, so you'll spend your time visiting empty houses and locations, so the occasional living thing keeps it from being depressing.
Audio cues are also fairly nice, if repetitive at times.
Audio and video is good enough I wish it had a new render - not a remaster, but the old visuals not as pixelated, and the audio exported to a higher quality.
Sadly, Timelapse seems to suffer from every problems present in this genre, with a couple extra on top.
The first problem being the slideshow nature of the game. If done right, it isn't a problem, but in Timelapse it's easy to miss entire portions of a level, or miss interactable items, or get disoriented. It makes the puzzle solving even harder.
Generally, the puzzles in Timelapse aren't too difficult - early on you can collect a journal containing clues, and a camera to record the clues you discover throughout a level, but it's best to have a pen and paper ready.
But from time to time, Timelapse has puzzles too clever for their own good - puzzles best solved by trial and error.
There's also one impossible puzzle where you have to shoot an arrow in windy conditions, and it can cause you to rage-quit.
Timelapse also makes it hard to know what is interactable, and what you can pick up and from which screen. It's not the most intuitive game. You can know what to do, but get stuck by not clicking things just right.
The game also likes to crash from time to time, so save often.
A game too rigid for its own good.
I still own the original fake leather book 4 disc set that still sits on my collection shelf.
I have fond memories and horrible ones playing with my mum saving at a pivotal point and stuffing up ended up locking myself in stasis haha and of course at the time I deleted all other saves and had to start again from the beginning. Minus a temper tantrum I played through again with my mother and finished it. I wont lie Nostalgia plays a huge part but hello we are on GOG. Visuals beautiful. gameplay infuriating and obscure but manages to still be worth a play through or many play throughs. I actually preferred this to Myst and was saddened by the companys failure and closure especially when a second installment was shelved... sigh. Music WAS outstanding and the puzzles actually felt more creative then any MYST iteration.
The original version I actually managed to get running on even windows 7 64bit. This 'remaster' simply made it easier and I had to purchase it. It has a suspenseful part late- game that none of the Cyan games managed to really achieve. Also the ability to actually fail the 'quest' accidentally late-game was infuriating creative if not suicidal if it happens to you. Dont lock yourself in stasis heheh. Save alot especially when reaching Atlantis. And oh yeah Atlantis... googling the pics is worth it just to see how beautifully crafted an presented it is, indeed the whole game really simply has something special.
NO one should regret purchasing this. It has a bit of everything sorry to keep bringing up cyan worlds BUT this sets itself apart by using real history and the rendition of real world places and history. graphically its aged (at higher resolutions) but still beautiful. Colourful, they managed every environment to look vibrant and colorful - not easily done. Anyway running out of (words) here.
Please give this game a try its cheap as! for what you get and it will definitely be memorable. A audio/visual masterpiece.
