For retro gaming lovers, discover a jewel from 1996: TIME COMMANDO

A deadly virus has invaded a top secret military super computer. Its catastrophic time-warping effects now threaten to overtake the computer systems of the world. If you cannot restore its memory in time, the growing virus will cause the world's collapse. You must journey through the corridors of history to stop this technological demon. But vicious warriors await with lethal purpose. Instinct will be your only ally. All-out combat, your only choice.

Time Commando will take you on a journey in time and space that you will never forget. With plenty of weapon types, stylized visuals, and diversified gameplay it should keep you entertained for many hours. This title is very unique and it should be a part of every serious game collection.

  • 9 Worlds to explore, each in a different time and place: prehistoric, Roman, feudal Japan, Medieval, Conquistador, the Wild West, and the modern wars.
  • Impressive arsenal of weapons, from Katanas through rifles and spells to a technologically advanced combat yo-yo.
  • Entertaining and challenging puzzle-solving elements, stylized visuals, and an original story.

For the nostalgia...

When this game was first released, I marveled at the diverse worlds, the variety of weapons to use in combat, and the eye-popping graphics. Playing it now kind of feels dated and cumbersome. While fans of the game who wish to revisit memories of playing this may enjoy this, I wouldn't really recommend it to those looking for a "great game". The controls are slow and lethargic, the levels are quite short, and there is little replay value. That all being said, this was a landmark title for it's time, collectors, and those who wish to glimpse at what we used to think was the pinnacle in graphics and gaming may also want to give it a look.

Top marks for variety

This one is probably best for the nostalgia factor but any who are willing to put up with clunky controls and a terrible camera will find a great game inside. What other game lets you fight cavemen with giant clubs, gladiators in the colesseum, karate in japan, shoot outs in the wild west etc etc. Lots of interesting weapons and enemies will ensure you remain interested the whole game.

Raving Biased ALERT ! <3

This game meant so much to me, it showed my system's power(yea yea i know what you're thinking) at the time, it took me to a world of GRAPHICS! and CG, gave me fun directional beat'em up action through a nerd-verse of time travel, and had a bit of FUN difficulty to boot. Now I say come one, come all on this here title, because....well Time Commando is a special PC game and one of a kind, I promise you that much. And now some final questions for you all: Do you like to look at old graphics and animation with charm? Do you like to punch tigers in the face? Would you like to have simple and slightly challenging journey through awesome cheese? SAVE TIME! BE A COMMANDOOOOOoooooOOOO! :) (yes i am aware of the cheesiness of this review)

Style over substance

My brother bought an EA Classics CD version of the game years ago, so naturally I got to play it too. The game is an above-average brawler, but not much more. The idea is neat, but it all boils down to repetitive fighting through all the short stages, with the graphics being (at the time) the high point of the game. The game itself is pretty short, only a few hours total. I guess for its time, Time Commando is what's now called "a game for graphics whores". Maybe worth it for a quick blast, but not much more.

A fun tour through time

You fight through a number of different time periods. Each period has a unique set of enemies and weapons and a different feel. Every moving animal, person or mythical creature is a threat and will attack you on sight. You have to defeat them to move on. The combat is complex enough to require skill and good timing. There a several different attacks and you can block and dodge. The weapons in each period are unique and some require different tactics. Besides combat there are also jumping sections and avoiding traps and other hazards. A key gameplay element is keeping up with the camera and collecting enough data fragments to fill up the gradually depleting time meter. So speed is critical. The camera angle is usually fixed and follows the level's linear path. You sometimes have to slow down or speed up to stay in the frame. This can be annoying at times. The jumping sections can require carefully rotating the player at the right angle or risk jumping off. This is made worse by the fact there is no quick save facility and having a finite number of lives. Though the game has 3D graphics, the player's movement is constrained to single (often narrow) linear path and as indicated above there is no backtracking.
