GOG Preservation Program
We make games live forever! Since 2008 we enhance good old games ourselves, to guarantee convenience and compatibility with modern systems. Even if the original developers of the game do not support it anymore.
  1. This game will work on current and future most popular Windows PC configurations. DRM-free.
  2. This is the best version of this game you can buy on any PC platform.
  3. We are the only platform to provide tech support for the games we sell. If some issues with the game appear, our Tech Support will help you solve them.
What improvements we made to this game:
1.01 GOG v2 (28 October 2025)
  • Added Cloud Saves support to keep progress safe and synced
  • Introduced a new launcher with DOS sound settings for easier configuration
  • Tweaked the DOSBox setup so the game now fills the screen properly
  • Increased CPU cycles to make gameplay smoother
  • Added two control schemes that can be selected in the Game Configurator
    • Original (Numpad): Keeps the classic control layout unchanged
    • Modern (WASD): Maps movement to WASD, jump to Space, and menu to Esc for a more intuitive setup. The original numpad controls still work, but with this scheme, W, A, S, and D can’t be used when naming saves
  • Fixed the French version by increasing available memory and unbinding the W key, which was accidentally set to quit the game
  • Added the Entomorph: Plague of the Darkfall demo as a bonus
  • Added a Game Configurator that lets players adjust fullscreen mode, graphics settings, resolutions, aspect ratio, and CPU cycles
  • Stability validated
  • Fully compatible with Windows 10 and 11

An ok dungeon crawl

You make a party and explore large open dungeons which are traversed one after another. Backtracking is possible but not really useful. Progress through the levels is made by solving puzzles or finding well hidden keys and switches. There's a ton of secrets to find in the levels too. And of course fight monsters in turn-based combat. Rather rare for the time you can play this on a relaxed difficulty. There's only a barebone story (activate a shield by pushing two buttons and stop the invasion) and some lore written down in scrolls. Back then this was an enjoyable game though all things taken into account. However the journey is the goal here (looting and leveling) not the story or the ending.

Great Game All Around!

I have not played this release, but I remember buying this game as a kid, I instantly fell in love with the intro and spent hours making my ultimate party. There is lots of exploration and puzzles in this game. Its almost more of an adventure game to some degree, at least in the beginning, as you have no idea what your are doing or where you are going. I look forward to being able to play again and beating it this time.

Grandfather of all the greats

This game is a masterpiece. A lot of people on here are griping about the graphics and sound It's a DOS game from 95. It's not a modern AAA title. What're you expecting? Plus if you think the sound sucks you clearly have an lousy opinion- and it's soundtrack is particularly amazing- fitting it almost perfectly. I personally love the dark and terrifying atmosphere. It matches the games story. You're in a cave, or sewers or catacombs and dungeon jails. It's going to be dark. The Character customization is immense! You can make literally whatever you want. The games very unforgiving if you don't know what you're doing- at least until the gong. If you abuse that....lol I have thousands of hours into this game. It was the family game back in the day and I will likely have bring my kids into it. If you want an easy dungeon crawler with good graphics go play Diablo- (another fantastic game) But if you want an unforgiving game with an amazing soundtrack and nearly unlimited customizability that will consume days at a time? Thunderscape is your game. Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Diablo, Darkest Dungeon and many other great games owe their existence to games like this, and Daggerfall. Worth EVERY penny, including the guide book that currently at its cheapest is $50-80 (it's that hard sometimes lol)

Nostalgia 11/10

Had this game when I was young, yesterday I finally finished it. The difficulty of this game is imho legendary. 1. Puzzles that can instantly kill you while playing without modern autosave features. 2. You will die if your party is bad. No hand-holding here. 3. Keys and buttons are hidden.. very well. Controls will frustrate you at first. WASD was not a thing back then. You can move by using your Numpad and even strafe with Num1 and Num3 Buttons. Why to buy this game: 1. It is a good game. If you get into it, you will love it. 2. This game is voiced! 3. Create your own party! 4. Invite new Characters to join! 5. This game has Robots! 6. The atmosphere is well crafted. 7. Secret doors, hidden treasures and amazing NPCs. 8. Finishing this game will give you wizard powers! Why not to buy this game: 1. It has bugs. You can soft lock yourself, which happened to me. I had to load an older save game. 2. It has bugs. Playing for too long can cause errors with the sounds playing in loop. Turning it off and on again fixes that. 3. No WASD+Mouse controls. Finding a button inside a Coffin? Good luck, buddy. 4. The map feature is a nightmare. It will haunt and torment you and you will need it so badly in the first dungeon.

Deeply Inspirational

I love this game. Aesthetically, it is everything I love in high fantasy. Magic is everywhere, the soundtrack feels so epic. Cons are poor framerate in big levels, annoying monster sounds. Pros are a fun and gripping story, great music and art. Well hidden treasures, engaging puzzles, the best paperdoll system I'm aware of. I love the turnbased combat.
