Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

Quality RPG experience thus far. Choices with consequence. There are some puzzling design decisions - the prevalence of puzzle battles, where your deck is replaced with a uniuqe one dictated to you being one of the most annoying. What point is it building your army if you are suddenly fighting with something else?
My other major complaint is the massive prevalence of shortened battles - making any sort of drawing / multi round tactics that hallmark gwent as a card game moot.
Otherwise pretty great. At least something good has come out of gwent post midwinter.
A good game that can stand on it's one in this fine witcher world. Characters are very well written, ranging from companions on Meve's journey to "villains" and general adversaries. You will be called to make tough choices regarding them and the world in general. Those choices will have an effect on your version of the story and won't be easy to make. You will most certainly lose companions while gaining other's favor which will translate in battle in a very well thought manner. The gwent part is very addictive for the most part of the game (adding in that there are clever puzzles where you will be called to achieve your goal through special rules), though once you find the way your basic strategy there will be no need to change that. And here is the point where towards the end of the game i personally started to get a bit tired of all the repetitive procedure of map cleaning and fighting (what seemed like) the same battles over and over again. Don't get me wrong, i tried to do everything on all of the maps the game offered and it seemed i lost the meaning of it after 30+ hours. Overall thronebreaker is a game that made me have a good time, giving information on the Continent world i loved through the witcher trilogy all while adding characters and situations i was unfamiliar with.
While there is a story and not a bad one at that. The gameplay is pretty lackluster. I knew from the beggining that this was a card game of sorts which doesn't usually tickle my fancy, but since it is a game which has a story based on the witcher universe I thought that I could play the game just for the story. Sure you can skip the card stuff, but then all you are doing is clicking along to a very expensive visual novel.
I can honestly only reccomend this game if it was 15 bucks or less.
I was so satisfied with the game, until I found out steam published Thronebreaker 20 days later, with a price that is 35% lower than what I've spent here.....
This review is more challenging to my moral system than anything in the game. On one side I want to write something positive, since I really enjoy the Witcher universe and I appreciate the attidute of CDP towards players. On the other side there are serious problems with the game.
The game is pretty, the characters are solid, plot is good, every fight is different and fun ... for the first 10 hours of the game. After that, plot and moral choices effects are predictable. Deck is so powerful, that every battle is the same and is easy.
I feel that CDP put a lot of effort on beginning of the game and very little on middle and late game. I want to give a good rate, but more because I like CDP than I enjoyed the game.
