Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

Finished Thronebreaker after 36h and yeah, it's pretty good. Better than I expected. The story and characters are definitely the game's strong suit but the standard Gwent gameplay can't really live up to that (too easy, even on hardest difficulty). The puzzles were really fun and most of them were quite clever, though. I'd prefer to just have puzzles and no standard Gwent rounds in the next one. At least the game gives you the option to skip battles which I started doing when I reached the last map/area. But I want to be honest: I complained that the game is overall too easy but there was one battle that I had to skip because I just didn't manage to win it. But even with that slight criticism I really hope we'll get more Witcher Tales games in the future. The writing is just that good and the stories are the main reason why I play video games.

Thronebreaker is a great game and it is to be thankful for not copying the same gameplay as we already saw in The witcher 3. Here the "battles" are different and with variety (standar, short and puzzles; being this last one the more entertaining of all. In my opinion, of course). There is a good story and with none known main characters from the previous games (some cameos or mentions, but that's all). And I think it is really difficult to reach that but you got it. Now, talking about the choices and decitions, I think CD projekt are the best on that matter. A lot of different "games" for every player depending on the elections each one of them choose. Definitely, a great game beautifully made that worth every penny you spend on it.

I really wanna like this game, but I'm perplexed as to how this game is being reviewed so well, when it's the buggiest card game I have ever played. Constant unresponsive menus and getting stuck in loading screens (sometimes forcing me to lose progress) cause me to have to forse close the game, which wouldn't even be a problem if I didn't have to do it so frequiently. I believe I'm averaging about 4-6 times an hour. Would honestly give it 5 stars if it weren't for the previous complaint.

Well, the game's price is about half of the Witcher 3 and it required probably 1% of Witcher's budget to produce. So CDPR decided to monetize some of the Witcher and Gwent brands value, nothing's wrong with that. It is just a variety of Gwent with a bit of a story thrown in and simplistic graphics and mechanics. Your got several decisions to make which are are irreversible (as there is a single save), but influence mostly your deck and not the story line. There is a precious little reference to Witcher and none of its atmosphere. I did finish it just because I need something to occupy me while I exercise on a stepper.

If you want a good story based rpg/tactical game, you find it. If you want a witcher tale, you find it. If you want to have multiple endings, you find it. Nice maps, nice characters, good texts. BUT the only thing what can ruin your game: It cannot be saved manually!!!! Always make an autosave and always just the last moments. So if you take a dialog, and changed your mind, you must start the whole game! Thats why I give 2 stars, not a 5!
