Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

I've played all witcher series and I'm a big fan of it. I have also played most legit card games like mtg, hs, gwent, and so on. I liked upto Beta Gwent also.
However, this game is not upto any of those games above, it's only a side game for Gwent promotion, not a standalone for $40. I felt that I got cheated and dumped for its worth and quality over the price, after playing it.
Pros & Cons
- a decent story line for the famous Witcher world in the old times, the firat war.
- awesome new cards for Gwent, re-worked Gwent (official public release)
- lots of Gwent puzzles for optional quests, yet totally irrelevant to actual Gwent cards, they dont use Gwent game cards (abil, stats)
I felt dumb playing puzzle quests as a moderate Gwent player, knowing it's just another Sudoku.
more Cons
- Play with hardest difficulty, story & game play is the same.
- Once completed, quest, adventures, strories are the same. Not really affecting the game except which companions to keep and weapons (for Meve). totally waste of time.
- know that the save is restricted, it's the only way to make you feel to replay the whole game for missed boxes and companions.
- boxes reward you for Gwent avatar frame or cards, only if you wish to play Gwent.
so it's $40 focus is promote Gwent, encourage people to get hands on it instead of this TB game. that's rip off and as already a Gwent player, I'm dissapointed to play crap Gwent cards set up and mechanics in this game.
Conclusion/Recommendation:
watch and enjoy this game on youtube or other popular game channels, and just play the free Gwent game yourself vs with other players. spend your $40 somewhere better.
or even play another round of Witcher 3.
series story + box rewards for Gwent = $40, it's not worth so much. I say $10 is good, as this game is to promote Gwent card game than itself.
OK I really like the Witcher, this is not the Witcher OK. The puzzles are not Gwent. The puzzles- trial & error to get the correct order to play the cards in to win gets tedious after a short time. Too many different rules & conditions, feels more like filler than anything game related. Combat can be fun, but again the rules change often.
Not at all what I expected and now wishing I had purchased on Steam so I could refund. It's not anything like the Witcher series, not like the Witcher Adventure game. Not sure what this is, looks like a board game with a broken version of Gwent.
Overall this has to be my biggest disappointment from GOG!
...but I just cannot get into this game. There are many aspects that I found to be really boring, unintuitive, and just not fun. I'm a huge fan of the Witcher, W3 gwent, and various other RPG's and card games, but this just did not do it for me. It's a shame.
I put this off for a while for two reasons:
1) Didn't care that much for Gwent in The Witcher 3 so I put this off for a while event, even though TW2+TW3 are among my favorite games ever.
2) Read the difficulty was trivial during launch.
After they fixed the difficulty, I still waited a while (somewhat just because of time), but I finally jumped in and WOW. This game is fantastic. Lots of varied battles, difficulty balance is near perfect on the hardest level. Story+choice is as good as anything they've produced and the prose is better than most novels.
The only negatives I can think of is progression was a bit dull (it generally felt more like horizontal progression, giving yourself options rather than feeling more powerful) and there were a few too many battles (but you can skip them, it was just unclear if I would need the resources later but after playing I'd say it's safe to skip 2-3 battles per map starting with map 3).
Pretty small complaints compared to all the good. Buy it if you're interested.
