oh man, FINALLY

you did it!! it's on here!!! I have been waiting for fucking YEARS look if you like Diablo 2 and want it instead to be a Japanese-themed game where you fight in a party (if you want) and get to make your own weapons then THIS IS THAT I love this game so much and I especially fucking love that if you play multiplayer and beat the game, you get to start multiplayer games (if you want) as the fucking bad guys, in the bad guy castle, and all your samurai are evil and undead. this was an amazing game, made by the Arcanum guys, and I really really hate how low my productivity's gonna be for the next couple weeks.

Let down despite the appealing setting

First of is that my experience on this game is about the cdrom version I admittedly played a long time ago. Still the idea of replaying this game after all these years invokes an unpleasant feel in the bottom of my stomach like I'm undergoing sepuku. Well what positive can I say about this game, the graphics are okay and some might even say they're good, same goes for music and soundeffects as far as I can recall. And of course the medieval fantasy setting of Japan will make any Japanophile drool like a dog with rabies. The gameplay is like a party based version of Diablo 2 and it controls generally well enough so no complaints here. What isn't so positive is how ToD has taken all the bad things of Diablo 2, like the tedious inventory management, sifting through megatons of worthless items, endless grinding and ultimately boring gameplay and multiplied it times 4. Don't get me wrong this game will keep fans entertained for hours but you will likely hit a point where the game stops being interesting and becomes a slog to play instead. At least that's what happened to me in ToD but admittedly also in Diablo 2 and Titan Quest. Only the first Dungeon Siege showed how to make a good party based ARPG without being bogged down in tediousness, watch Ross Gamedungeon's review about it on YouTube.

Good in theory...

'Cuz in practice, unfortunately, this Diablo clone couldn't achieve its goals. Basically, they started with the Diablo clone thing and then decided to add party management with a little bit of strategy, which is completely useless. Furthermore, the party management in a game where there isn't a stop time function, fast-decision making is required, and most fights are over in a matter of seconds isn't really that great of an idea. Yes, it's nice to deviate from the formula, but you got to do it right. For the Japanese settings, again, good but nothing mind-blowing. Every chances for a dark setting was completely thrown overboard after seen the cartoonish introduction to the game. So, nothing to write home about. Doesn't mean, however, that the game is bad. If any feature described here may attract you, go right ahead. it is still an enjoyable game.

Lost gem under the hype of Diablo!

Yeah I loved Diablo but, this game was so fun and awesome. I have read Diablo is the darkest game ever but, I am pretty sure this game had them beat on the darkness. This game should have been remade, A few tweaks and this game could have had all the Diablo fans racing to there keyboards. I mean com'on it's basically Diablo with samurais, Who doesn't want to be a samurai! the Japanese lore is awesome and refreshing from the usual themes of most games of this type

Framerate is choppy on gog version

I first bought this game on gog, enjoyed it alot. the game was running a little choppy but i though the game was like that. The game can be a bit hard at the beginning, but it is really a fantastic game. not too long ago i bought the retail version on ebay, and wow the retail version run so much more smoothly. i have both gog and retail version installed atm and i just dont want to play gog version anymore.
