My personal favourite game ever
There are a thousand reasons to recommend this game. Like System Shock, it is a classic ground-breaking title. I'm only going to pimp one reason here, though: If you've played Thief 3 and remember with fondness the sweaty-palmed, squeak-inducing horror of Rocking the Cradle, you need to play this. 'Return to the Cathedral' will knock your socks off.

It's Thief!
Really, what else is there to say? This is the game that refined the FPStealth genre, after it having been established by SysShock. - Great Voiceacting - Great Leveldesign - Great Story - Great Characters - (Even for the time) mediocre to passable graphics - Great Atmosphere Get this!

Buy this game! Now!
Wow, GoG, first Deus Ex, and now Thief! I had a CD version of it, and played it all the way through on hardest difficulty. Revolutionary for it's time, and even better than some of the new crap being released today. When I first played the demo before I bought this game, I was blown away at the sophistication of the AI. One of the strongest aspects of the game are the difficulty levels. The strategy used to beat a level played on Normal difficulty would be almost impossible to use on the same level played on Expert (the hardest difficulty). A rarity in video games, the hardest difficulty is actually MORE FUN than the lower difficulty levels. There are a lot of strategy guides out there; I strongly recommend you use them to fully appreciate the game. If you tired of 1st person shooters where you kill everything in sight, try playing a game where 90% of the levels require you to make NO KILLS or you fail the mission. Also, the ARROWS. I cannot praise enough the way they work in this game. From simple broadheads for killing, to sophisticated gas arrows to knock out enemies from a distance, there's the right arrow for the right job. Do yourself a favour, and buy the godfather of the stealth titles. It wasn't the first out there, but it was the first to perfect it. Without games like this, we wouldn't have the later Metal Gear Solid titles. Play with a good pair of headphones, and SAVE OFTEN. Good luck and have fun.
