This might be the best game ever made. What I wouldn't give to have seen Thief 2 Gold and LGS proper Thief 3.

Description
Thief™ II: The Metal Age gives you a chance to revisit the dark streets of the City, now changed by the Order of Mechanists, a new cult which has embraced many of the followers of the fallen religion of the Hammerites. In a world of steam robots and cameras Garrett will have to face a new opponent - Sheriff Gorman Truart, a lawman determined to rid the City of all criminals, starting with master-thief Garrett. Equipped with a new set of tools, including flash mines and scouting orbs, Garrett has to keep himself alive and unveil the secret behind Truart's actions. Starts out looking as a simple case of corruption will eventually become much more, and Garrett again finds himself a reluctant savior--but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to rob the City blind while he saves it!

maybe Nostalgia? maybe not?
Still holds up today as one of the greatest PC games of all time, graphics might be dated but the actual game play is better then most of the trash that comes out of AAA studios today.....no hand holding, no hud or mini map. Amazing modding community that still makes great content today more then 2 decades after this games release. If you have never given this series a try I highly suggest you do so.

Thief 1 and 2 are still the best
THE BEST pure stealth games ever made! Even now in 2024. The graphics are charming with the T2fix mod and they still feel super immersive. You really feel like a master thief and yet many of it's contemporary rivals cannot replicate that feeling. The sound propagation method is INSANE for being from the 90s. Again many newer games may use high quality sound effects, but none outside of Gloomwood, sound as good as thief. Even Dishonored failed at this despite being on the record as trying to modernize thief, as did Thief's 2014 dog dookie reboot. Reject modern triple A, embrace Thief

A classic
This game is getting long in the tooth but is still a masterpiece of stealth gameplay, sound design and has a thriving modding community making tons of fan missions that rival the original missions in quality. A must-play! The GOG version comes with a fan patch that fixes most of the issues that make it difficult to play on modern machines as well which is amazing.
