Brings Back Memories

Glad I found GOG.COM and with it, Zork. Zork kept me company, along with a couple of my other favourites, Mystrey House and Transylvania. I have gotten my kids to play this as it helps with imagination and we have spent countless hours debating on the colour of the windows and leaves. A must for anyone who wants to know how PC games started. Awesome.

Zork, you, and the ominous Grue

I was standing in an open field West of a white house when I realized that nothing in my life would ever be the same again. I had found that happy marriage of literature, puzzles, and computer gaming that I didn’t know I had always wanted. Zork and the Infocom library are some of my favorite, most treasured gaming experiences. For games which are comprised primarily of words and require that you commit some of your own, there aren’t enough sufficient ones to adequately describe the joy these adventure games will provide. This collection of games is the best value in gaming today, in terms of quality of experience and overall content. They absolutely hold up. This collection will delight and absorb you, especially if you’re the kind of person who enjoys cleverness, unique humor, and that point in fiction where genre labels no longer matter because the story took you someplace special. Grab some graph paper and a pencil, relax, open up Zork, and settle in for hours of exploration and discovery. Just remember to keep a light source handy because in the dark there be Grue!

The GUE is Still Great

Lots can be said about the Zork games but the reason I return to them again and again, for enjoyment and inspiration, is that they are the window to a very peculiar fantasy world that remains unique to this day: the Great Underground Empire. The GUE's history, flavor, social satire and absurdist nature remains an original, slung together from fragments of traditional forms of fantasy but with a character never repeated. It's funny, wise, and strange, and it's the beating heart behind the puzzles, the tunnels, and inventory lists. Play these games because they'll take you where no other games can: the GUE.

Best Games Ever

Interactive fiction, text-based adventures, call it what you will. But your imagination is still the best video card you can get. Much like the difference between a book and a movie, so go text based games and video games. God bless infocom!
