The Witness

The Witness (why is it called that?) is a beautiful game. Gorgeous graphics set on a stunning island with lots to explore. I spent ages just wandering around to start with getting used to the layout. However, it's highly frustrating trying to work out how to do those endless line puzzles. I kept hoping something else would happen like the statues coming to life or something. Otherwise what was their point? There are places you come across which lead nowhere and where there is nothing to do. The recordings dotted around didn't seem to have any purpose to me and neither did the videos. The ending was very disapointing. To me this was like a mixture of Myst, Obduction and Quern. If you like line puzzles and you have the kind of brain which can work these things out then you'll love this game. For the rest of us it really is a wonderful land to explore but I wish it had been something else. Having said all this I will attempt it again just because it's so stunning.

This game is profoundly inspiring.

It doesn't really hold up to the price it is currently on here, just about $40 USD, that's just egregious for a puzzle game. One that released nearly 5 1/2 years ago, I'm surprised they haven't changed it to a more reasonable 15 freedom bucks or so, it just doesn't seem right.

This game made me rethink myself in ways I didn't expect.
