Legendary Status

I've been a gamer all my life and was never really interested in RPG type games... I joined GOG in anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 and bought the Witcher 3 on sale then later on I bought Witcher 1 and 2. I didn't bother giving any of the games a try until after finishing 2077... And hindsight tells me...why did I wait so long? I decided to try the first 2 games to get caught up on the story, I planned to play the first 15 minutes of the 1st two games to get an idea of the story. However, I ended up playing through both, being sucked in by the fun game-play and the story. After finishing Witcher 2, I discovered that I could import my saves into Witcher 3 and the choices I made would carry over into it, each game just got better and better! What more can I say about Witcher 3 that hasn't already been said? Glad I decided to jump into the shoes (boots? Armor?) of Geralt of Rivia. The story the DLC's (Blood and Wine is my Favorite). I can see now that is the true benefit of waiting so long to try this series I got the play the complete version of each game with all the DLC's and expansions attached. This has been an amazing introduction to the RPG genre for me. It is truly one of the best games I ever played, and still play. This review if for Witcher 3 but I have to mention Gwent: I was ensnared by the "game with in a game" Gwent card game while playing through Witcher 3, after finishing it I was amazed by the standalone Gwent game (a review for another time) The Books, the Games, the Shows, The Comics....I am completely captured by the Witcher world. I have played the 3 games, enjoying Gwent, playing through Thronebreaker, and plan to read the books, already bought some books in audio and readable versions. I admit this has kind of been a review of the entire franchise but hey... The Bar with this series has been set VERY high....Legendary Status!

Massive performance drop for no gain.

I'll start off by saying: when using the classic edition of the game (pre-next gen update) I had the settings at their max with the HD rework and HD monsters mods installed and working on an ultra-wide 3440x2440 monitor running at a locked 75 fps. Without v-sync it easily exceeded 150 fps! Now, with the new update everything is bonked. There appears to be no visual fidelity increase other than tesselation and obviously higher resolution textures when compared to vanilla. However from my understanding CDPR used the HD Rework and HD monsters mods for the vanilla version to upgrade the visuals of the "next-gen update", so to me I can't see that much difference as I used these previously. I have been running this new version at 3440x2440 with all settings on Ultra WITHOUT raytracing but WITH DLSS on. I have an RTX 2080TI so you would assume these would be reasonable settings right? No. Average fps is 45 to 50 but averaged 58 to 60 in undense, unpopulated regions. Unacceptable! Using the supposed textures CDPR have implimented I previously had 100+ fps, so this is downright pathetic. I really feel for the pre-2000 series gpu holders because I know that even a 970 could have handled the HD rework mod on the classic edition. So what on earth has gone wrong here? How did the very well optimised game become this? The textures haven't been upgraded that much. I can't believe I'm saying this, and I seriously backed cyberpunk (I enjoyed it at release), but after seeing what happened to that game and now with this, I don't reccomend you support CDPR until they get their act together. These rushed projects provide no promising prospects for future releases. THE ONLY SAVING GRACE AND ONLY REASON THIS REVIEW IS NOT ONE STAR IS BECAUSE YOU CAN REVERT THE GAME VERSION BACK TO 1.32. Other than that, it's bonked.

Speechless

It's been 2 years since I last played this, but I'm still baffled about how ridiculously fantastic this game is. It's one of the best games I've ever played, and it deserves every hype, every attention, every award, every penny, and every minute of your life. Just buy it, and you'll see. Come on, what are you waiting for? BUY IT already!

The best game I've ever played.

With 500 games on Steam and 20 years of gaming under my belt, I can easily say this is the single finest game, by a large margin. It's finely crafted story, gameplay, visuals, and overall experience are truly breathtaking. While you don't need to read the books first, I can't help but recommend it. For me, it's (sort of) equivalent to the finale to Game of Thrones being a masterpiece game. This conclusion to an epic fantasy universe is all one could hope for and more. My only complaint is that all other games pale in comparison.

Great game, but...

Gamers that don't have an RTX card got screwed, basically. The game looks terrible without RTX now, since they removed HBAO+. Bring it back CDPR, please.
