Solid but overrated

One of the most overrated games of all time. Someone has to say it... Looking for 3rd person RPG with real emotional draw and severe consequences to your actions? - Play Mass Effect 2 Looking for a rewarding 3rd person hack and slash combat system - Play Shadow of Mordor Want a good combat system AND openworld RPG - Play Monster Hunter World Want a medieval story which is actually complling, with interesting characters, moral choices, era appropriate stories and missions - Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance Want to picture yourself as the stacked, lone-wolf, ladykilling hero, in a romanticised, fantasy world where the hundreds of NPC's all have the same 12 voices; where you can complete the overblown story even when you skip every cut scene and mash X through every dialogue; rescue scantily clad (even in the rain) maidens in distress and go all gooey eyed over a huge open world with the same 7 house assets flipped and repeated all over it at inconviniently vast distances - Play WItcher 3: Wild Hunt When will people realise that kissing the butt of a particular studio is not a good way to ensure that you form well rounded opinions of their games? It never works out guys, two noteable and recent (April 2020) (Lol 4:20) examples... Bethesda - Fallout 76... Blizzard - World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth. Witcher 1 and 2 were excellent, although not without fault, Witcher 3 is fine but definitelly not (as I read in the GOG reviews) the best game of all time. It's not even in the top 100 games of the 21st century by any objective measure. Name one new, inovative or creatively bold thing this game does. Did they even come up with a great combat control system? If you have played it, you know the answer, if you haven't, you can guess based on the sarcastic tone of the question. Bottom line... It's OK

Dissappointing

I don't like progression in this game because The Witcher 3 has decided to go for a level based system where equipment is locked behind level caps that you have to reach in order to use it and enemies of too high of a level will kill you extremely easily, this completely defeats the point of exploration because it forces you to do just the main quest as it is the only viable source of xp because secondary quests hardly give out any XP at all, AND i can't even be sure that i will be able to use the goodies i find or defeat the enemies guarding it because of my level. ***SPOILERS*** I hate that most of the choices you make in the second game have either no, or almost no impact in the third: -Killing or sparing Aryan La Valette changes only a couple of dialogue lines in the main quest in the third game -Siding with either Vernon Roche or Iorveth makes no difference as only Roche appears in the third game -Killing or sparing King Henselt makes no difference as he never appears in the third game and Kaedwen is conquered by Redania in any case -None of the choices you make in Loc Muinne affect the political landscape in the third game -Sparing Sile de Tansarville makes no difference as she dies moments after you meet her in the third game -Sparing Letho just makes a sidequest available Initially i though the series had immense replayability because of how many choices are available to you, i even imagined myself going through every game multiple times and explore all the different possible scenarios that result of the choices madein the previous game but all of that is gone, and i don't think the internal choices are worth another playthrough. There's no diffuculty in this game, there's only it's illusion because higher difficulties simply make enemies have more health and deal more damage to you, friendly AI in combat is useless because they mostly just stand around doing nothing and when they do it's to deal miniscule amounts of damage.

Engaging but frustratingly flawed

There's a lot to enjoy about this, but for a game so highly praised, there are some surprisingly clunky mechanics on the PC version. Sure, Geralt can slay monsters & use magic, but making him go exactly where you want, or walk around an object without getting trapped because his little toe is caught on something, is harder than it should be on a AAA title. After release, the developers even added an optional movement tweak, but it makes little difference. The scope of the game world & story arc is staggering; the sheer number of sub-quests is huge. But it is the obvious amount of effort that has gone into designing all these elements that makes the teeth-gnashing mechanics all the more annoying. Compared to any premium FPS, the character movement & interaction is second-rate. The lack of finesse means fighting is pretty procedural. As long as you keep levelling up & improving your equipment, enemies that were previously challenging become easy enough to beat with some button-mashing. Also be aware there's a lot of trudging from A to B & tedious looting of objects. I thought the days of having to be on exactly the right pixel to activate something in a game was long gone, but there's plenty of time wasted here awkwardly repositioning around a box or sack until the 'loot' option finally appears. Then, after looting countless useless objects just to find the occasional gem amongst them, the inventory interface is lumpy, requiring tedious manual housekeeping. There's an awful lot to like about this game, it just feels like so much time was spent on creating its amazing universe that they neglected the fundamentals. It could have been great. If you're looking for an immersive world, a multitude of believable characters & storylines, & don't mind spending time on humdrum repetition, then dive right in. If you're looking for the fantasy equivalent of a slick FPS, your patience may be challenged.

Best RPG I have ever played

As a completionist type of player, having most of the game achievements not being registered really bothered me. The functionality look abandoned, people reporting problems for a few years, that are never fixed. Other than that, the game is absolutely brilliant.

Buggy!!

I wanted to enjoy the game but my god. The audio, specifically speech, stopped working on my game! Worked fine until I made it to the Red Baron. Saved game, continued a few days later and now I cant hear the voice acting. Just the subtitles. All the other audio is fine. Tried restarting the game etc. and the voice acting is still mute. No settings were changed so don't understand the voice acting becoming mute. All this time, I heard about how fantastic this game was, finally gave it a try. Just a few hours in, it goes stupid on me! Starting completely over is not an option. If it did it to me a few hours in, what if I did 100s of hours than it bugged out on me? The problems were drowned out on this game because people claimed it was so great. All hype! At least Skyrim didn't bug out on me like this game did!
