I wanted to love this game, but...
There is a lot of great things there, but that make problems even worse. Its similar to perfect marble old Greek statue, but face was made by small child. I am not writing this angry, just heart broken. Problem is, that world does not make sense, and authors were unable to lead setting to consequences. Easiest example is mission, when you protect about thirty magic users from a few armed people. Just people, not not mutants, not magic users and they can be dangerous for them. This nonsensical magic persecution line is worth analysis on its own, but not biggest problem, just example. Game builds on dark Sapkowski's world when everybody is capable and evil. Humans and non humans fighting, men women in army or spell casting, or at least plotting... I have memory from books of some man in gender-neutral prison with some women warrior (Zerikania I thing) and she was abusing him... If you see no-name bad person in this game: bandit, deserter... always humans and always man. It feels like wannabe edgy teenager doing edgy stuff, but being careful not to interfere with his in-group taboo. He is not cool, just idiot. And real world can be more dark and edgy than this wannabe dark setting. There is evil sadistic man torturing women. Bad. But ten minutes before I seen Triss bursting random guy's crotch with fire with just because. Intentional torture. Even Gerald can use mind control and her spells should be more capable than his. Isn't there even mind reading in this universe? But "good guys" can do but unnecessary bad things because... Seen this in history books, they are not good guys. If authors avoided this nonsens, and refined non-brain combat (fast attack, fast attack, dodge, repeat) it would be masterpiece. And its shame that so many such talented people worked on this, but it got wasted by by writing team, unable to things two steps deeper. I lost my patience about half game deep, around 57-58 hours deep.

Pinnacle of the action RPG genre!
I've been playing games a VERY long time; my first computer was an ZX81, and so far The Witcher 3 has completely blown me away. It does almost everything right and CDPR deserve every plaudit possible for their achievements. Ignore the naysayers about graphics, they are breathtaking and the character models, faces and animations stand out as especially tasty. Considering this is an huge open world game I would of thought CDPR would of copy and pasted some of the characters but all of the ones I've seen so far seem unique. Bethesda has a lot of catching up to do here! Combat feels visceral and all of your abilities have a part to play in downing your foes. It's so good that I generally look forward to combat which isn't something I felt about the Witcher 2. There are some areas where there could be improvements such as enemy AI; they occasionally stand around not attacking but on the whole the battles are fun and engaging. I'm not far enough into the game to say whether the story holds up all the way but so far it has grabbed me and makes me want to know where it's going to go next. The characters and voice acting has really helped pull me in here. It's the best I've ever seen. The soundtrack is amazing...nuff said. There are a few rough edges, such as the UI and occasional crash, but they never get in the way of having fun, and I know that CDPR will sort these out over time. You can tell right from the start that the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a labour of love from CDPR and the amount of work and craftmanship which has gone into it is mind blowing. Some people may say it is the best game of its type ever made, and I would agree. All I can say for certain is it is the best game I have EVER played.
